Vitamin Calculators

Please could someone point me in the direction of a vitamin range calculator? I found one for my recent thyroid hormones test but not that.

I think I am right in saying that T3 and T4 should be about 60% through range when using both levo and lio?

How high in range is optimal for Vits D, B12, Folate and Ferritin pls?

Many thanks for any advice on this.

We are all different.

Some of us would be fine with T4 and T3 around 60%. But some would need more. Some might need less. And some would need T4 to be a higher, or lower, percentage than T3.

This is why it is so very difficult. But, having got to a balance that works for you, you can see if you are higher or lower than at that point.

Thanks helvella. As of most recent test, my T4 is only at 41% and my T3 is at 54% so maybe there is room for an increase in T4, even though I don't convert very well.

How high in range is optimal for Vits D, B12, Folate and Ferritin pls?

The levels that I aim for are :

Vitamin D : 100 - 125 nmol/L

Vitamin B12 : 1000 ng/L (This is for the serum test.)

Active B12 : Top of range.

Folate : 20 Micrograms/L [The body doesn't store folate so it has to be supplemented regularly if you don't absorb it from your diet.]

Ferritin : 90 - 110 micrograms/L

Ferritin is a measure of iron stores. It is complicated by the fact that ferritin can be low while serum iron is high, or serum iron is low while ferritin is high, or both ferritin and serum iron can be low or high.

Having high iron and/or ferritin should be avoided because they can cause problems by allowing pathogens and cancers to reproduce and thrive. This is why keeping iron and ferritin optimal rather than high is strongly advised.

Thanks human bean. My ferritin has been rising of late and is now 181ug/L.. so that is too high then really? The range is 30-332 and I thought that looked about mid and therefore okay...but I know absolutely nothing about it. It usually hovers around the 148 mark.

I have been suffering with colitis for a couple of months, wondering if that would have any relevance to the rising ferritin....

Your level for ferritin is exactly 50% of the way through the range, so I doubt very much it is a problem of any kind.

Be aware that inflammation anywhere in the body will raise ferritin, and ranges are higher in older people. I have no idea how old you are.

Doctors usually pay no attention to ferritin levels until they are about 1000 mcg/L, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
