Love to hear your Thoughts and opinions (hopefully guidance too)

I don’t know where to start when it comes to thyroid. It’s hard connecting or finding people who has been in same position as myself hence why I’m here. Online. Hopefully by your thoughts and guidance or opinion it will bring me hope and peace. ☺️

Grab a tea ☕️and biscuit 🍪, it’s long 😅

I was diagnosed having Graves’ disease at 22 which was a shocker tbh and weird cause it was two month after my wedding.

The symptoms was strange as it was pregnancy like symptoms but loss a great amount of weight, every time I ate I vomited and couldn’t keep fluids down too. Had dizziness and blackouts, heart palpitations and tremors.

I did request for a full blood test at that time By the NHS but got refused and they thought it would be better to shove a camera down to see my stomach. I knew something was wrong and had a feeling by shoving a camera they wouldn’t pick up on anything.

I did put my foot down and in their words they said “sorry we can’t help you it’s best if you go else where with that request.”

So instead I took a private route (spending at least a £1500) for consultant to tell me I had overactive thyroid and in their words was “shocked” at my result with all my levels very high. So I had to wait for my medication dosage amount since they need to get it right.

(If I still had the paperwork I would’ve showed you 😂 we’re talking nearly three or four years now. I remember it was over 60 my T4 levels.)

Whilst waiting, my condition worsen to the point I had to wait two hours for an ambulance and they rushed me into resus where my heart rate was high, had me on heart monitor and my calcium and glucose level were very low and my white blood cells was low too.

I remember having so many nursing questioning my condition and how it’s rare and how in my age I should be lively and running about. I knew nothing of overactive thyroid since my mum and grandma were under active but they had their diagnosis after having children.

I felt as though I had no support from anyone not even family or in-laws or even doctors.

After three days in assessment unit with endless of drips and Iv fluids they discharged me and gave me Carbimazole, told me the dosage taken and didn't discuss the side affects.

Fast forward December 2021 (age 23) I had a chemical pregnancy, the doctor did say because of the carbimazole and the high levels of T4 and TSH that’s what caused it however since it wasn’t a official pregnancy diagnosis and I wasn’t pass the 6 week mark they said they didn’t want to put it on the system and just go home and not think about it.

They did state to stop taking it if I’m trying for children. (Which I did)

At that time I was under an endocrinologist and she prescribed me Propylthiouracil.

I had a relapse 6 months later (due to stressful environment) and it was decided that I should give up the thought of children and start thinking of my health.

It did break me… a lot and fell into depression.

People may think I’m too young however I achieved a lot since the age of 16, working since that age even having my first house (which is rented out) and now I’m at my second house with a cat to keep me company.

So I agreed to the doctor decision, and because of my age I had to wait until I’m 24 to go through radiation therapy to get it underactive.

Last year I went through radiation therapy and had to isolate for 4 months due to the dosage.

A month after treatment I started taking levothyroxine.

Again the consultant was shocked due to the improvement of my health along with other factors at this point I feel like a test subject to them due to my age and the condition and the treatment of it. I feel used lol.

I went through another chemical pregnancy but this time though I was out 6 months waiting to try and get pregnant again phase.

the doctor again said it could be due to some radiation in my blood hense why it happened.

again I feel lost and disappointed at myself and still till this day, I desperately tried to find people in this position who has been in a similar situation but had no luck.

Current day: I feel a lot better however I’m experiencing brain fog and tiredness but I’m taking 125 mg of levothyroxiene to get my t4 levels to 2.5, I’m on 3.6 atm.

I’m on a diary free diet and doing HITT exercises which improved my health massively along with my thyroid levels. I strongly recommend anyone who is trying to get their thyroid control to do this along with dry or wet cupping to get rid of the toxins inside.

Questions

1. did anyone have successfully pregnancy stories when it comes to thyroidism? If so please share or tips 🥲😅

2. What pre vitamin supplements do you take whilst trying but not affect the thyroid levels?

3. Any tips for a 26 years old with thyroid problems (anyone older whose been through it the longest)

I hope to hear from your responses soon, thank you for taking a time to read my story 🤍

Welcome to forum

Young people can undergo RAI if necessary, I’m not sure why you had to wait until 24. If a patient can’t have RAI drs usually opt for surgery instead.

Your 4 months isolation was extremely long. Usually dose levels to treat Graves requires up to a few weeks.

Sorry for your pregnancy losses, it also sounds like your care was very poor, refusing to investigate your initial symtoms & not recording medical information sounds wrong.

“I’m taking 125 mg of levothyroxiene to get my t4 levels to 2.5, I’m on 3.6”

I think you might mean TSH levels. 3.6 is quite high if on replacement, drs are told TSH should be in range or under 2.5 if trying to conceive, but most do not feel well until TSH is around 1. Most of us wish drs went by FT4 & FT3 levels as those are the thyroid hormones.

The TSH is a pituitary hormone, it signals the thyroid to increase or reduce production, but it’s unreliable for many reasons. Are drs also testing FT4 & FT3. You need to know how much T4 is getting absorbed & how well you body is converting it to the active FT3. Most feel best when FT4 & FT3 in upper part of range, this is where symtoms resolve.

Questions

1. did anyone have successfully pregnancy stories when it comes to thyroidism? If so please share or tips 🥲😅

- I’m sure there are, but don’t be too disappointed if they don’t post on here. Members here tend to be the ones that struggle not the ones which have responded well and and out living healthy lives.

2. What pre vitamin supplements do you take whilst trying but not affect the thyroid levels?

- A large number of multi & prenatal vitamins contain iodine, which might be something you don’t need excess of. It’s far better to test key nutrients & supplement where needed. Start with how your folate, ferritin, B12 & Vitamin D are. You need optimal levels for good thyroid conversion.

3. Any tips for a 26 years old with thyroid problems (anyone older whose been through it the longest)

-There members here who have been hypothyroid from birth & many diagnosed many years ago & so have lots of experience.

Tracking your own results is one of the most important factors to ensuring your treatment progresses. Drs consider in range acceptable & limit what is investigated.

There are direct private testing companies which can offer complete testing. Much more affordable than going private dr route.

welcome to the forum

How long have you been on 125mcg

Do you always get same brand Levo

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with/after Graves’ disease

But multivitamins not recommended

For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels

What vitamin supplements are you taking

VERY important to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Medichecks and BH also offer private blood draw at clinic near you, or private nurse to your own home…..for an extra fee

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Tips on how to do DIY finger prick test

support.medichecks.com/hc/e...

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Monitor My Health (NHS private test service) offer thyroid and vitamin testing, plus cholesterol and HBA1C for £65

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70:
