Hello, I have really bad underactive thyroid symptoms and just started medication. I have been listening to some podcasts and T2 has been mentioned. Has anyone looked into this?

Thank you.

Mefy, what medication are you taking, what dose are you on, and how long have you been taking it?

Hello, I’m on 20 mcg of T3. I’ve been on it for about 4 days. I’m already feeling the positive effects. Something I wasn’t expecting was my gums aren’t bleeding as much. Today they didn’t bleed at all. And my tongue isn’t as inflamed? I’m connecting the medication to these positive effects. I have suffered with the symptoms as well as a load of others for 15 years! Time will tell…..

Although you’re not asking about it for weight loss, typically one sees t2 marketed as such, and when you see products with muscular body builders you know it’s not for us.

T2 is part of our body’s thyroid hormone processes, but it’s not something you can just take a pill for and have it drop into that chain reaction.

You will be much better optimizing your ft4 and ft3 with proper Levothyroxine (or Levo + liothyronine; or NDT) and tending to your vitamins and minerals b12, folate, d3 and ferritin.

Thank you for this. I have optimal levels of vitamin D and low levels of iron and ferritin. I’ve not had my vitamin B12 tested for sometime. I will get onto addressing these. Thank you

I suspect that the podcasts were by people who sell T2, or have affiliate or other links to those who sell T2. Even if not immediately obvious, by far the majority of places that T2 is mentioned positively have these links.

just started medication.

You can’t rush treatment for hypothyroidism

Typically we start on 50mcg Levo daily (or 25mcg if over 60 years old)

Retest bloods 6-8 weeks later

Which brand of levothyroxine have you started on

How long have you been on this dose

What were your thyroid and vitamin levels BEFORE starting on levothyroxine

Dose levothyroxine is increased SLOWLY upwards in 25mcg steps, retesting 6-8 weeks after EACH increase

Essential to also test and maintain GOOD vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels

Please add results and say exactly what vitamin supplements you are taking

Is your hypothyroidism autoimmune?

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO are high

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Do NOT add T3 at this stage ……far too early and will just result in it being impossible to get GP to increase your dose of levothyroxine

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Tips on how to do DIY finger prick test

support.medichecks.com/hc/e...

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal
