Anyone heard of Activated K2

Batty1 profile image

I went searching for K2 to take along with Vitamin D3 and the only thing I found was (Active K2) and researching doesn’t reveal any useful info.

Anyone know if Active K2 is better then K2, or really no difference just bigger price tag?

K2, like d3, should be a softgel in olive or coconut oil as it's an oil based vitamin and also needs taking with good fat. The exception is the Betteryou k2 spray.

Do know anything about Active K2 vs. K2

When I was looking into a separate K2-mk7, I remember reading about there being 2 forms: cis-isomer form and trans-isomer form.

I can't do the science bit but what I basically remember is that the cis-form is inactive and the trans-form is active.

I don't remember many supplements that I looked at where it was stated which form was used.

Vitabay Organic K2-mk7 liquid is one, they state that theirs is "all trans form, zero cis form" (or words to that effect).

Another is Innovix Labs Full Spectrum K2 which has all trans mk7 plus some mk4.

I did use the Vitabay Organic liquid but when I went to re-order it was out of stock so I had to buy something different at the time, I may go back to it or buy the Innovix Labs capsules next time. Unfortunately K2 is one of the more expensive supplements.

Thanks Seaside Susie, This Active K2 cost me $15.99 U.S. I went to a organic grocery store I should have went to vitamin shop....but I was in no shape to be standing around waiting in our holiday sale lines. I just hope it's safe!

Does it say anything about "all trans form"?

Seaside Susie, The bottle says Vitamin K2 (as mixed with menaquinones) Choline and L-Glutamic acid I dont see anything about trans form.

In that case it wont be the trans form. If it is K2-MK7 then they probably mean that is more "active" (as in bioavailable) than MK4. The MK4 in supplements is synthetic. some supplements contain both MK7 and MK4, in which case the MK7 will be quite a low dose compared with the MK4, eg MK7-100mcg, MK4-400mcg. MK4 has a short half life and needs to be taken in multiple doses during the day, MK7 has a longer half life and one dose daily is enough.

The print on this bottle is so tiny...geeze. 75mcg per capsule and says take 1 per day. Do you think I should look for a different K2, it's seems to be a very elusive vitamin.

I would take it, use that bottle and maybe go for a different one next time.

When you say a different one are you talking about a higher dose and how high I'm only taking calcium citrate With Vitamin D3 400iu....which I just realized I'm suppose to take 4 capsules I take one...I'm ok with this as I have ibs-c and I can't do too much calcium.

I take magnesium citrate w/ K2 and D3.

90-100mcg K2 is said to be enough for up to 10,000iu D3.

Next time I would go for either an all trans form or an oil based one. The all trans form MK7 is supposed to be the best but I have used the oil based softgels.

I checked with other admins in my vitamin d group and we came to the conclusion that what I stated above reply, in olive or coconut oil is the purest, and other k2 has other additives and are not softgels. These are best absorbed and keep without going off as liquids do.

K2 doesn't aid absorption of D3. It's magnesium that is required to convert Vit D into it's active form thereby enhancing absorption of D3.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.
