Hi all I did the randox thyroid test as advised was a bit difficult collecting enough but results are back now as follows

Tsh 1.02

Free t4 19.20

Free t3. 4.91

Antitpo 12.7

Antitg 17.2

All seem to be in range and surprisingly the t3 doesn't seem that bad am still struggling walk and coughing up mucus Dr's haven't even bothered checking why . Gp I first saw said thyroid cN affect walking pain spine hips .so it might all get better it hasn't my mood is slightly better .feel more like myself .able cope walking isn't quite as bad in that my balance is slightly better still feel chilled inside at times. Had hoped to be on a higher dosage as I am on 100 mcg and weight is possibly 100 kg plus .. but no idea what I can do now tsh is 1.2 so tho would like it to go lower and poss feel better I can't without Dr's say so . Does my antibodies reveal which type of thyroid problem I have . .thanks fir any advice x

Please add reference range for each test - numbers in brackets after your result.

Did you allow 24hrs from last dose of Levo before the test or did you take Levo before the test? What was the timing?

What time of day was the test taken?

Any vitamin results?

T3 4.9 range 3.1 to 6.8 49%

T4 19.2 range 11.9 to 21.6 75%

Thank you think my tsh was 1.2 sorry got that wrong . The test was done at 9 o'clock at home test kit . I take my thyroxine the night before about 11pm the test kit results agreed with the tsh I had tested at the Dr's . Gp didn't check znything else and I felt so awful I wanted know t3 and t4 and antibodies is there any way knowing whether I have hashimotos or aito immune .x

I take my thyroxine the night before about 11pm

So Ft4 is falsely high

Last dose levothyroxine should be 24 hours before test

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Next step is to

A) retest correctly

B) test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking

What were most recent vitamin results

I have only had vitamins tested once a long time ago but we're in range will have to look at my records again. I have been taking b12 and vitd as I thought they were at lower end of range just in case . Nurse only checked my tsh.. So I rarely get to know anything else that helps really x

is there any way knowing whether I have hashimotos or autoimmune

Your results show both antibodies are negative for Hashimoto’s

However 20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too.

Request coeliac blood test BEFORE considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

or test privately £20;

You could push GP now for “trial “ increase in Levo to 125mcg

Or if they are very reluctant to 112.5mcg daily

Retest in 6-8 weeks after increasing dose

Thanks. I am already on 100 mcg. And looks like they won't think it needs any further adjustment. As just posted normal no further action required in my notes without speaking to me .I dont know whether I now carry on retesting every 8 weeks or whether that's it now . No-one says it's very much case of being left to sort yourself out I find very poor really with quite few serious symptoms going on that affect your quality life . Unfortunately not recognised as a problem to Drs x

Thanks. I am already on 100 mcg.

So push for next increase to 125mcg or if GP reluctant to 112.5mcg

Retest in 6-8 weeks

Pay attention to brand of levothyroxine

Work out which suits you best

If dairy free you need lactose free Levo

Lactose free brands - currently Vencamil or Teva

Vencamil is lactose free and mannitol free. originally only available as 100mcg only, but 25mcg, 50mcg and 75mcg tablets became available Sept 2024

Prior to March 2023 Vencamil was called Aristo

Vencamil often very well tolerated/best option for many people

How to get Vencamil stocked at your local pharmacy

Teva makes 12.5mcg 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg and 100mcg

Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine.

Teva is lactose free, but contains mannitol as a filler instead of lactose, which seems to be possible cause of problems. Mannitol seems to upset many people, it changes gut biome

struggling walk and coughing up mucus

Struggling to walk and pain in joints is frequently low vitamin D

Mucus and post nasal drip - suggests lactose or dairy intolerance

Thanks slow Dragon . I am taking vit d . Not sure about the dairy I did try to stick to using the one you recommended from Waitrose oat milk but couldn't stick to it. . Would there be a test kit for that or just cut it out to see . Drs just ignore it every time I say about it but have all the other thyroid stuff going on . They can't cope with too much at once . Thanks will look.at trying that x

How much vitamin D are you taking

Are you also taking Vitamin K2 and separate magnesium

Magnesium best taken in the afternoon or evening, but must be four hours away from levothyroxine
