Which is the best thyroid finger prick test to take please?

I'm looking for a thyroid blood test I can do at home with the finger prick kit which would include active vitamin B12, thyroid antibodies, ferritin, folate and vitamin D. Also is there a discount code?

Thank you in advance

Bess48, I'm not up to date with all the prices of fingerprick tests. But I suggest having a look around MonitorMyHealth (10% Discount code THYROIDUK10) monitormyhealth.org.uk

Some other testing companies are detailed on the Thyroid UK website thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

Alternatively, if you can afford a more comprehensive test, you could have a look at Lola, whose prices include a phlebotomist coming to your home to do a venus blood draw (so much less stressful than finger prick DIY!). lolahealth.co

It’s important to test BOTH TPO and TG antibodies at least once

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO are high

But looking at your previous posts you already know you have Hashimoto’s?

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If on T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Post all about what time of day to test

Medichecks and BH also offer private blood draw at clinic near you, or private nurse to your own home…..for an extra fee

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Tips on how to do DIY finger prick test

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Monitor My Health is run in an NHS lab at Exeter hospital. Your GP/endo is probably more likely to accept these as they from an NHS lab.
