Finger prick test for initial thyroid check.

Hello, I was asking yesterday about Home nurse visits for the blood tests. After all that, I decided to go with the finger prick option. I got the thyroid check ultra from medichecks.

Has anyone used this for their first thyroid check test? I’m hoping I haven’t wasted my money if it’s not as accurate as a vein blood test. I’ve read very mixed reviews on google.

Anyone have any experience with finger pick test for their initial one?

Thanks.

First finger prick test I had done through Blue horizon was nigh identical to the one done at GP a week earlier.

Ok great thank you 😊

Yes I did. I've always used finger prick tests, either Blue Horizon or Medichecks, and the results seem consistent (obviously with fluctuations due to medication changes). I've never had a blood test from a vein as I'm a needle phobe, but my doctor accepts my tests.

I admit I had problems with getting enough blood when I first tried, but that's because I didn't know of a few 'tricks'. ;) Make sure you're really well hydrated before doing the test, including the day before. Move about and wave your arms round before testing, run your hands under the hot tap for awhile. Most important - do the test standing, not sitting, the blood will run better that way.

Good luck! :)

Ok, thanks for the great advice, my kit has arrived this morning but I’m thinking, not do it till Monday? 🤔

I’ve read about it being a fasting test on here? Do you know how long you need to fast at all?

So do you just take your medicheck blood tests to your NHS doctor?

Thanks again, sorry for all the questions!

Yes, do it Monday and get it in Monday's post. Ideally send Special Delivery Guaranteed Next Day by 1pm to avoid any delays which could possibly spoil your sample.

Overnight fast from evening meal, just do your test early next morning and have breakfast afterwards. You can drink plenty of water.

Your GP may or may not accept your private test. Post results on here first and members will comment then you will know what to say to your GP.
