Hi Margo, I was in exactly same situation as yourself. I have been on AdcalD3 for over 20 years and have been ok on that except when they tried to move me to a cheaper alternative with aspartame in it. Aspartame does dreadful things to me, so had to request AdcalD3. I also supplement magnesium. Sorry, I don't think my comments will help much.
Is there a particular reason why you want to stop the alfacalcidol?
Thank you, your reply was helpful. I didn't know about the aspartame in the medication. I know it is in some, why do they do it? It's a poison and has very bad affects on people. if I can avoid pharmaceutical products where there is a more natural alternative I will always change meds.
Hi, Me too, I'm in same position after loosing some or all of mine over 20 years ago. I originally took Alpha but in recent years have opted for another way. I take D3 with K2 (in quite large doses especially in winter) , magnesium, and a joint mix supplement as recommended by Dr Myhill that has a bit of everything in including silica and boron.
Thank you this is exactly the answer I was looking for. I take D3, K2 and magnesium. I had a spell of not taking the Alfacalcidol, but had big problems without it. I have never been sure of the exact amounts to take to avoid the Alfacalcidol. Would you mind to tell me exactly what you take and how much, so I can give it a go too. Thank you so much.
Course ! So what works for me so far is Youth & Earth D3 & K2, - 4000iu, same brand magnesium threonate - 150mg, and Dr Myhill s joint mix ( available from her website) containing glucosamine , small amount of D3, silica, and magnesium stearate . You dose this according to your weight . - explained on container ! Hope that helps. 👍😊
I take the D with a late brekkie , - usually eggs so there's some healthy fat to help absorption, and 2 joint ones ( my dose is 6) then 2 more afternoon and 2 eve. At that time I also take the magnesium as it helps with sleep .
Hi Margo, I take the One Alpha, 1 microgram (4 x 0.25 tablets), I supplement with 2000 or sometimes 3000iu Dr's Best Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 drops ( Vitamaze drops).
I have tried to take magnesium but don't seem to get on with it. What magnesium do you take?
I also supplement with a teapoonful of Cod Liver Oil daily and once a week I have B12 drops ( Nature Provides). I did used to take B supplement but seem better without them at the moment.
Taking the extra Vit D3 has been the best thing to stabilise my calcium levels, I think. I hardly ever get symptoms of low calcium ( unless I am out & I forget to take One Alpha tablets out with me, so can't take them till later.)
I have tried to reduce the One Alpha but immediately my calcium drops. One of my parathyroids was squashed back in, and must work a bit as I do have a low PTH reading.
I would like to stop the One Alpha as I think it contributes to itchiness and abdominal pain, especially if I forget to take it straight after a large meal.
Thanks for your reply. I take magnesium glycerinate. However I am keen to try the method that Panda_26 has mentioned in the above response to me. I think for me that might be the way forward.
