I'm going to see my gp tomorrow and very probably will be prescribed hrt cream. Will this affect my thyroid medication. Currently taking levothyroxine 125mcg and 3x 5mcg doses of t3, vitamin d 10,000iu and magnesium glycinate 3x 650mg.
I feel really good at the moment, my libido however is not good. Any advice greatly appreciated 🌼

My Endo increased my HRT patch by 25mcg (75 to 100) 6 weeks ago and my FT4 and 3 both dropped by two points! So in answer to your question yes it’s a possibility that it will.
I’ve had a 25mcg increase to my Levo today to see how that works and another test at the end of Jan. All vitamins are good. You say you take magnesium, what about B12, Folate, Feritin and Vit D?
Hi, my vitamins are in upper ranges so all good.ive been given it in pessary form, so here goes, I'm going to have a medichecks blood test in April, see how it goes
Hi Geegee, if you've been given pessary form then this helps with vaginal atrophy that can cause dryness and irritation which obviously will put you off sex. For actual libo, then transdermal oestrogen is first line as it's the decline of estrogen that causes this. Once estrogen levels are balanced but still libido issues then testosterone is next.
Stupidly testosterone will only be prescribed if you say you need it for low libido, when in fact it is so much more than that. Also it's criminal that it's as difficult to get prescribed as it is thyroid medication..they really don't want us women happy.
Yes, an increase or decrease in estrogen can affect how your body uses thyroid hormone so you may need an adjustment. This is why we often need less thyroxine as you age.
Applying it to the skin, (patch, gel, cream) does not affect taking your thyroxine in that you don't need to leave a gap as you would oral medication).
Oestrogen can potentially reduce the conversion of T4 to T3, so you might need to adjust your levothyroxine levels slightly.
Having said that, everyone is different and I am currently applying an oestrogen gel and I have not had the need to adjust, but I did notice that my T3 levels have slightly dropped.
With regards to your libido, maybe speak to the GP about a testosterone cream?
I’ve had no change what so ever in thyroid levels due to topical oestrogen. Topical is least likely to cause significant changes as not going through the liver however it’s quite an independent thing and dosing (re absorption) along with progesterone to get the right dose for you.
Libido usually responds better with testosterone but some find getting enough oestrogen can help. Just be aware Testosterone is harder for women to get on NHS there’s no proper female licensed product (yet, is abroad), but there are options and it is given off license… you may need to find a source eg privately re menopause clinic or consultant can prescribe if GP won’t.
some things to think about when visiting w your dr - are you gluten free/dairy free or have any peanut or nut allergies. I began HRT and had the progesterone pills and they had peanut in them and seed oils that seemed to bother me - bloat, weight gain. I was changed to the combipatch - again the progesterone wasn’t without fillers or seed oils. Was taken off combipatch and tester one was changed to a different injectable form bc the proportionate also had peanut oils. My symptoms were weight gain, head acne, feeling bloated. So maybe ensure that if you have any allergies to any ingredients etc is addressed prior to taking the HRT. Also I had my blood tests and my t4 and t3 dropped below range (not even optimal) so I have been taken off combipatch and moved to testosterone enanthate. Increased my t4 (tirosint) to try to elevate my t4/t3 back to normal. I have been focused on my vitamin d, magnesium, folate, vitamin b and such and with these being optimal it makes the big difference. Would love to hear what people use if they have peanut or seed oil, gluten allergies for progesterone etc
I use Cyclogest vaginally, the excipients are listed as progesterone and hard fat. Not sure what the hard fat consists of but I’m much more tolerant of this than utro although I don’t have a peanut allergy, more of a progesterone allergy!
GP gave me vagifem and it has lactose and maize starch,I'm lactose sensitive and intolerant of gluten, so phone call to gp tomorrow for an alternative..hey ho
Vagifem if for vaginal use so lactose shouldn't be an issue unless you swallow them by mistake as it's a digestive issue rather than a systemic allergy and maize starch is gluten free
Geegee777 If you're getting other blood tests done anyway... If you haven't had one done recently, I'd be tempted to get an early morning cortisol blood test done before starting HRT so that by doing another one later on you can get an idea of how much difference the HRT makes to your cortisol levels. Hopefully, you'll never need to know this information (most won't), but if you do find it becomes relevant, having that nugget of information available could be useful.
Hi, No, the HRT cream didn't affect my T3 and T4 medication. I was prescribed it for vaginal dryness after menopause, which did help. Unfortunately it kept causing me vaginal bleeding which it says on the leaflet it can do. So the Doctor sent me to the hospital several times for an ultrasound scan of the womb, which didn't show anything, but they got fed up with me keep getting called back there, and wanted to give me a hysterectomy. I didn't want to have that done unless it was necessary, so stopped the hrt cream, which stopped the bleeding. I now use Dr. Wolfs V-San for the dryness which you can use every day which helps.
