Is there a recommended weekday for Medicheck thyroid testing?

Hello All

I've benefited so much over the years from the posts on this group and am eternally grateful.

I've got Hashimoto's thyroiditis and had my thyroid removed over 30 years ago. Have been on Levothyroxine ever since, not entirely well since then.

I have just moved to the UK and have GP results in hand for the first time. As I've been feeling more than ususally sluggish, I am not surprised to see that my TSH is 2.06 (0.3-4.2).

Of course the GP comment = "Normal." Sigh

I am planning on getting my TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested with Medicheck. I will also have Vit D, B12, Ferritin and Folate done.

Here is my question: I think I remember seeing advice here that one should ideally test with Medicheck on a Monday or a Tuesday? Brain fog precludes remembering who advised that or why.

Does that advice hold? I was thinking of having it done tomorrow (Thursday)

Many thanks

The lab they use is open mon-sat lunch time. I just did one on a Thursday. Posted it that morning and it was received by Friday but didn't get results until Monday. It's just a bit of a risk if the post is delayed or something. Mon - Wed is safer

Thank you for the explanation. I will go to a lab near me to have it drawn so I think I'm safe doing it tomorrow as no post involved.

Don't you have to post sample yourself? They seem to be very quick arriving at mo. Have done one 2 weeks running, posted on Monday & arrived both times by 6.30am next morn! I've often paid in past to bump postage up to arrive before 1, but didn't bother this time as knew there were prob errors with my pinprick tests and pleasantly surprised by delivery time at least.Wise idea to have it drawn, saves the frustration! Good luck...

Its a medichecks lab, so I was assuming they would post it ? Who knows. I will find out tomorrow, I haven't done it before.

I've read the small, small, small print now and I see that they draw the sample but I will post it I think that given how cold it is, samples wont spoil at the moment.

The suggestion to post on Monday or Tuesday when doing postal private testing is to try and avoid blood samples getting stuck in a post box uncollected or to have samples getting stuck in sorting offices over the weekend. It is meant to try and get samples to the lab in time for the testing to be done within a day or two of producing a blood sample.

If timing was wrong, particularly in summer, the blood sample might be damaged and make the test results unreliable, or the blood might clot in a way that makes the tests impossible to carry out.

if you’re taking any supplements that contain biotin stop these 5-7 days before blood tests
