Gaslighting GP 🙈

Hello 👋 members ,

I just wanted to pop back and say thank you all for commenting on my posts regarding my John who has primary hyperparathyroidism .

My goodness we didn’t have a very good experience today at local doctors 🙈

He wasn’t concerned with blood pressure and wasn’t going to do a referral to Endocrinologist he said the levels were not high 🙈 both PTH and Calcium - I did speak up then waiting patiently in the wings .

I said this is negligence how can you leave a patient like this who also has classic symptoms of hyperparathyroidism and his health is deteriorating rapidly .

He said he’s had many patients with Johns levels who's led a good quality of life .

Honestly , I was furious inside . Anyway he did do an NHS referral in the end which could take up 4-5 months 🙈

He tried scaremongering us saying if John had surgery he could die on the operating table or damage his voice box - all this from a GP who thinks he’s levels are fine .

Of course there are risks to any surgery and John would need to weigh everything up carefully .

He said John could have vitamin d 400 IU and he hadn’t even heard of K2 - he said it was a commercial gimmick .

Will keep you all posted how it goes privately - we have lots of helpful links from you all , thank you 🙏

It’s hard to know what to say. Except… that’s been my experience of GPs for a while now. It’s truly shocking.

Well done you for standing your ground!

I know. I’ve been there. Sending a big hug x

I’m sure you’ll probably have read this as part of your research but on the off chance you haven’t…. parathyroiduk.org/hyperpara...

And by the way, while there is of course a risk to vocal cords, it’s a 1 in 100 thing. Probably less if you have an experienced surgeon.

Not surprised about the K2 comment. Doctors know absolutely zero about nutrition. Some of the things doctors have said to me on the subject would make your hair stand on end! Because, of course, they think they know it all because they're doctors. So, as a general rule, never discuss nutrition or take nutritional advice from a doctor. It's healthier that way! :)
