OK. That’s not too bad, so don’t panic. If the bottom number was over 100 that would be more to worry about. To be honest, I wouldn’t say that was high enough for blood pressure medication—this could be a temporary thing.
But rising blood pressure may well be a sign that the hyperparathyroidism is starting to have more of an impact.
I had high blood pressure long before having the parathyroid problems, my adenoma was removed about 5 years ago, still have high blood pressure and take 3 tablets for it. I think I was lucky to find a brilliant surgeon that left me with a very neat scar that you can hardly see. I certainly would recommend him, but I believe you have to private message me to get his details.
Hypercalcemia can increase blood pressure, the problem with Hpth is finding the cause then getting a definite diagnosis, if an adenoma is seen on ultrasound and Sestamibi scan then surgery is the answer, you need to find an Endo and surgeon who are very experienced in Hpth, many aren’t which is why it typically takes a long time to get a diagnosis and surgery.
I have primary hyperparathyroidism and my blood pressure goes up during a calcium rise, my lowere number.. think it's diastolic was over 100 , I was told to go right to A&E on 3 occasions 🤦♀️
High blood pressure is connected to hyperparathyroidism, but unfortunately some specialist and gps just don't recognise the link, also like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism they know very little about primary hyperparathyroidism.
I've been left with the old watch and wait approach 😡 because the nhs can't identify the adenoma [ can't find it on the scans] they just keep giving me annual scans😡 but yet my bloods confirm primary hyperparathyroidism.
I have all the symptoms especially kidney stones , which in its self causes high blood pressure because this disease is also linked to the kidneys.
I do hope your partner gets this sorted because the longer we are left the more damage can occur...best of luck
One more thing I had to go private to get my diagnosis as the nhs just dragged there heals, I saw a lovely lady in Liverpool University hospital[ parathyroid surgeon]❤️
High blood pressure is one of the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism due to the elevated calcium in your blood. When I had primary hyperparathyroidism, my blood pressure became elevated and had extreme fatigue. It also robs calcium from your bones. I didn't feel better again until I had surgery to remove 2 parathyroid glands related to adenomas. Now I feel great, no high blood pressure, plenty of energy, and my bone health is improving.
No, I did not need blood pressure medication. My blood pressure usually is somewhere around 100 /60. But when I had hyperparathyroidism it went up to 140 /90. I had surgery pretty quick after I found out a diagnosis. I guess if my blood pressure got up too high they might have temporarily put me on meds.
