Well, I had my f2f GP consultation today and I was pleasantly surprised by his reaction. All bloods were within range (?) and there was no other cause for concern although there was no T4 or T3 test, only TSH. I went ready for a battle armed with various printouts but thankfully it wasn’t needed as he really did seem to listen and take on board my thoughts and concerns. I said that I felt that something had changed with my thyroid over the past couple of months. He agreed that TSH and various symptoms indicated that it wasn’t working properly and agreed to increase Levothyroxine from 75 to 100 mcg. A USS has also been requested to investigate my thyroid being swollen (???). One area that I question is that when I mentioned pernicious anaemia, he said ‘no, it’s ok, you are not anaemic’🤔 He was also unaware that a change in brand could cause a problem, but was willing to listen when I respectfully pointed out the problems that could occur with Teva. I will see how I go on the new dose alone with the folic acid prescribed last week and wait for the next TFT. All in all though, a positive experience. Thank you all for your help and advice which helped me go to my appointment with the confidence that how I’m feeling isn’t in my imagination.
GP Consultation : Well, I had my f2f GP... - Thyroid UK
GP Consultation
Thats great news, well done on the increase.
Whats happening about your low B12? Will your GP do further testing?
GP is unlikely to investigate further Jaydee but at least I’ve won part of the battle.
Time to get going with a separate B12 and a week later B complex.
Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry to be a pain but are you able to suggest supplements that are readily available ie Amazon?
amazon.co.uk/BetterYou-Vita...
Thats a good mouth spray which avoids the stomach for B12.
Do you need anything else?
That’s great, thank you. Possibly B complex without folate (?) as I have folic acid on prescription for the next 4 months 😳
This product from Seeking Health called B Minus is the only one I know fo that doesn't contain B12 & folate although there may be others. Not available on Amazon at the moment.
Well done on getting an increased
Get FULL Thyroid, TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 at least 6-8 weeks after increasing dose levothyroxine
Your private test results

These show you are folate deficient and B12 levels far too low
If GP not doing further testing you will need to self supplement
Starting with separate B12 and week later add separate vitamin B complex
Thank you SlowDragon, I will do as you suggest. Hoping too that the increase in Levo will help a bit. Should I continue with the prescribed folic acid or get B complex with folate? I’m sure that my swollen thyroid is due to being overworked but there’s no harm I checking as the LHS had two nodules before removal.
Great news re your increase. Well done you!! Sounds like a well meaning and a GP who listens. I have to say he is wrong about PA only being a query of you have Anemia. Early stages appear with out anemia. If you are going to try oral supplementation of B12 then something like No Shots B12 is very good. They dissolve instantly under the tongue.... Thereby helping to avoid the tummy.
Get a copy of Dr Chandy’s book, Vitamin B12 Deficiency in Clinical Practice’. It is only £6 on Amazon. It documents his dealings, diagnosis and treatment of his B12 deficient patients over 30+ years as a GP in practice in the NE of England. It is priceless and will educate you and ‘arm’ you as you seek a correct approach to your B12 deficiency condition.
