Varying NDT weekly or on non-consecutive days

Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has experience of, or views about varying my NDT dose.

I ask because T4/T3 levels on 2 grains daily appear slightly low yet high on 2.25 grains. I was thinking I might take 2.25 on alternate days or perhaps say, Mon day Tuesday Wednesday each week.

Not advisable because of the T3 content of NDT. If T3 is going to do what it's supposed to do then you have to take the same dose every day.

Why do you think that 2.25 grains is too much and 2 grains not enough? It's not a huge difference.

Thanks for your reply. Mostly based on bloods to be honest and perhaps feeling a bit jittery and often hear blood pumping, especially at night in bed (not sure how normal that is). But T397% through range seems high. I had been on NDT for just 8 weeks by the time of the May blood test so levels may have continued to rise on 2 grains.

May Bloods - T4 15.5 (12-22) 35% of range

T3 5.4 (3.1 - 6.8) 62%of range

August Bloods T4 17.6 (12-22) 56%

T3 6.7 (3.1-6.8 97%

OK, but as you have Hashi's, the difference in those results is more likely to be due to a Hashi's 'hyper' swing than your dose of NDT.

Even although I don’t feel a hyperswing ? I know people talk about it but I’ve never understood what it is. Would you suggest staying on 2,25 grains rather than reducing? Sorry to be so dense about this

Well, your FT3 is not really at hyperthyroid levels, is it. It's just gone up rather a lot considering your dose. You probably wouldn't get hyper symptoms at that level.

The question is: do you need all that T3? If it feels too much, go back down to 2 grains again. If you feel good, carry on as you are. But, the thing is, if it is a 'hyper' swing, then it's only temporary, and the FT3 level is going to go back down again on its own - swinging back to hypo. Time will tell, but you have to listen to your body and play it by ear. Only you can know how you feel.

As to what it is, it's when your immune system launches an attack on your thyroid, mistaking it for the enemy, and the dying cells release thei/excreted, and you swing back to hypo again. :)

Thank you. Lots to think about here.

I think I panicked that T3 was 97 % through the range last dose 18 hours prior to test. I find it hard to remember what I felt like on 2 grains. I don’t think I felt significantly worse.

ideally you'd take the same T3 dose every day (T4 doesn't matter so much)

but quarter of a grain would only be about 2mcg difference in T3 dose each day , so i can't see a problem with trying what you suggest .

many people on here who get their daily T3 dose by splitting a 25mcg T3 tablets into quarters or eights , will be having that much variation between days anyway , due to 'tablet splitting' never being a totally accurate game.

eg. i'm currently using eights of a 25mcg T3 tablet to take 3mcg / 3mcg / 3mcg over the day ( well ok '3 point something or other') .. but in reality some of my tiny pieces are probably 2.5 mcg and some of them might be 3.8mcg ..... so when the difference in dose is this tiny, i doubt it causes any issues.

Ok thanks for that tattybogle. I quarter a tablet anyway to get the 0.25 and frequently some quarters are much bigger than others yet I don't notice a difference.
