Thyroid function test

Serum TSH level 4.47 mlU/L [0.35 - 4.5]; Patient stated to be on thyroxine.

Comment:Results suggest adequate replacement

My latest doctors test result in her words still perfect. I have ordered monitor my health test so will post results when I receive them. My question is what do I do I feel rubbish I have bursitis in both elbows and knees can this be connected? She won’t up my dose. Groin pain is unbearable. At this present moment we can’t afford private. I just don’t know how to sort this apart from being told to take paracetamol!

Ask your GP to read these references and then reconsider their refusal to raise your dose .. all of them recommend TSH should be kept below 2/2.5 in all patients on levo... (some of them were taken directly from GP update resources, so thier should be no argument about their validity ) :

This post explains why TSH 'in range' is not the same as 'optimal for the individual' : healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... explanation-of-what-*high-tsh-is-telling-us-when-our-ft4-level-is-normal-on-levothyroxine-the-shoe-size-analogy.-*-over-2.5-3-ish

P.s .. noticed you had a heart attack recently .... (this may explain why GP is reluctant to increase dose) ... this post contains a collection of papers about thyroid hormones and the heart , you may find something useful in there : healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... /thyroid-disease-effects-on-heart-and-cardiovascular-system.-gps-told-keep-tsh-0.5-2-hypothyroidism-causes-raised-cholesterol

increasing dose should lower cholesterol.

High cholesterol is a symptom of hypothyroidism. In fact, that's how it used to be diagnosed. Cholesterol is made in the liver, and the liver keeps levels steady by making more when you eat less and vice versa. However, when FT3 is low, the body cannot process cholesterol correctly, and it tends to build up in the blood. Raise the FT3 level and the cholesterol should drop. And with a TSH that high, your FT3 must be very low - you are still very hypo.

What's more, not only does cholesterol not cause heart attacks or strokes, but the heart needs large amounts of T3. So, increasing your dose will serve two purposes. And it's really pathetic that your doctor knows about neither of them. She needs some serious re-education!

Thank you very much I am also on a blood thinner that also raises cholesterol I can’t take statins as they caused statin induced myopathy even though they still want me to take them. I am at my lowest of my life I have ever been ❤️

You don't need statins. They are not recommended for hypos nor for women, although doctors ignore that in their eagerness to prescribe them! But the cholesterol is not doing you any harm - on the contrary, your body needs it.

I was put on them when I had a heart attack but they were definitely not for me

They shouldn't be for anyone. It's just Big Pharma scaring people to death with lies and making a fortune from selling a 'cure' to a non-existent problem!
