My Daughter has just had some blood results and I would be grateful if you could advise on them. I know I should be able to help having had a TT nearly 20 years ago and I have previously received invaluable help from members. But my cognitive abilities have declined and I cannot even remember how to find my posts as my memory has been wiped of a lot of my built up knowledge. I would be appreciative for any help given . My Daughters GP has told her all is fine except her folate and has prescribed a months medication. My Daughter has also struggled with PCOS since a young age.
TSH - 2.5 (0.27 - 4.5)
Free T4 - 12.1 (11.0 - 23.0)
B12 - 274ng/L (197.0 -771.0)
Folate - 1.3 ug/L (2.0 - 18.7)
Ferritin- 85.1 ug/L (20.0 - 130.0)
Free T3 could not be taken
Thank you

What time of day was this test taken & is daughter diagnosed or not yet?
Ferritin is pretty good but depends if any inflammation is present which can give a false high.
Folate is deficient. Show results to GP for them to repeat test and hopefully offer folic acid prescription. Don't start folic acid until investigations re low B12 are complete.
B12 is very low.
B12 - does she have symptoms of B12 deficiency? The reference range for B12 is very wide and cut off point too low. theb12society.com/signs-and...
If you do then you should discuss this with your doctor for further tests for Pernicious Anaemia.
If not, then start with a methyl B12 sublingual spray or lozenge for a week, then add a good B complex. Once you run out of the separate B12 just continue with the B complex.
Thank you for your reply and information given. It is interesting you mention information, would the bloods I have just provided cause a difference in ferrtin ?
Bloods taken morning and my Daughters GP are prescribing folic acid and will retest that, but not B12 as they say this is in range.
Bloods were not taken for thyroid (no diagnosis of thyroid) but for a medication for anxiety I believe
No she is not vegan and usually eats a well balanced diet. She did have an infection and her bloods were taken about 2 weeks after she came off the antibiotics

is your daughter diagnosed and on levothyroxine or trying to get diagnosed
Her Ft4 is extremely LOW
If she’s on levothyroxine she needs 25mcg dose increase
Is she’s not on levothyroxine she needs retesting 6-8 weeks after improving very low vitamin levels
She needs thyroid antibodies tested for autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s)
Autoimmune thyroid disease and PCOS are strongly linked
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
No my Daughter was having blood tests for something else and the Doctor still has not mentioned the thyroid after the blood tests. I will speak to my Daughter and ask her to speak to her GP. It is a huge help the information provided.
