I have recently started on Liothyronine - followed advice to start slowly and all seems to be going well. I am also on very regular B12 injections.
I have a question about supporting adrenal glands. I had (may still have…) low morning cortisol, was given a Short Synacthen test which I passed but I felt that I reacted to the injection they give you. I felt quite hyper for a good few days - I stopped taking my Levo after a couple of days as it felt similar to the time I’d been on too high a dose. Anyway, as I’d passed the SST nothing more was done.
I’ve always struggled to get going in the morning and am now finding myself a bit anxious too. I’ve been looking into adrenal cocktails and it seems I’ve already been taking a form of one - orange juice and coconut water is recommended by a B12 group as potassium can be depleted with B12 treatment. I haven’t been adding salt or cream of tartar though. Have also just read about having a high protein breakfast. I do have yogurt most days…maybe that’s not enough?
Would I be right in thinking my morning anxiety is possibly an adrenal issue?
Would adding salt or cream of tartar to my OJ & coconut water mix be a good idea? How much? And is it actually best taken first thing in the morning? At the moment I have it at lunchtime.
Should I be adding more protein for breakfast? An egg maybe?
Anything else?!
Many thanks!

Cream of Tartar is just a source of potassium. If you're already having a good slug of coconut water then I doubt you need any more potassium - too much is not good. But, half a teaspoon of salt would be a good addition because adrenals need a lot of salt.
They also need a lot of vit C - hence the orange juice. But I never feel there's quite enough vit C in a glass of orange juice, so take more on top.
Are you taking a B complex with your B12? Adrenals need all the B vits, not just B12.
Depends how much yoghurt you eat but I doubt you could call it a 'high protein breakfast'. Adding a couple of eggs would be a good idea.
Thank you. Yes I do take a B complex as well - Thorne Basic B.
Salt, eggs and vitamin C. All do-able! (which is testament to my improved motivation as even those might have felt like a mini mountain a while ago…). Thanks again.
If you’re going to use salt get yourself a decent one that hasn’t been tampered with, turned into pure sodium, is white as snow, had all the minerals and goodness stripped from it and has anti-caking agents added, whatever they are. This kind of salt will likely raise your blood pressure eventually, if not used very sparingly
I’ve tried copy and paste from Amazon but it’s not working for me today
A belated thank you. I’ve been meaning to look into this for a while and you prompted me to order the Recovering with T3 book that it’s recommended to start with. Quite a lot is familiar from posts on here and I’m nodding along to so much of it - especially the frustration and progression of feeling disbelieved by doctors.
I have a more open GP at the moment - and an NHS endocrinologist who has prescribed T3 but doesn’t often do so. I am wondering if they might be prepared to consider the role of cortisol in all this.
I will keep reading, but, say it works, is that then an ongoing forever requirement to wake up at x o’clock to take T3? Or is it a short / medium term thing to get the adrenal glands functioning better on their own again? I imagine if it helps then it’s a small price to pay, but my sleep is something that at the moment works really quite well so disrupting it is quite a consideration.
