Thyroid test results - any thoughts please?

Hi everyone,

I’ve had some repeat bloods taken last week. When I posted my last results from Feb this year, it was suggested that they indicated possible central/secondary hypothyroidism and low-ish B12. Can anyone advise me if these latest results are an improvement, or if I should still seek some advice from an endocrinologist please?

Latest results (range) (February results) (any notes)

TSH - 1.42 mIU/l (0.35 - 5.5) (1.84)

FT4 - 13.5 pmol/l (11.9 - 21.6 optimal) (12.6)

FT3 - 4.38 pmol/l (3.1 - 6.8 optimal) (3.71)

Other tests:

Vitamin D - 91 nmol/l (50 - 375 Optimal) (18, was deficient and took loading dose)

Folic Acid - 32.2 μg/l (3.8 - 26.8 Optimal) (25.9) (recent test suggested this was high and could indicate pernicious anemia)

Iron - 17.5 μmol/l (5.8 - 34.5 Optimal) (13.4)

TIBC - 84.6 μmol/l (44.8 - 80.6 Optimal) (50.1) (higher now, slightly out of range)

Ferritin - 34.16 μg/l (10 - 120 Optimal) (40.17)

B12 - 382 ng/l (197 - 771 Optimal) (350)

(fasting tests, Randox, pre 9am. Recent test, I stopped B vitamins 4 days before testing. Usual supplements: Folic Acid: rotation of complex B and Prenatal, 2000 iu Vitamin D, 400 CoQ10.)

The main symptoms that are bothering me; constant low level weight gain, internal tremors, infertility (I haven’t ovulated in at least the past 3 months, but I’m 39 and a wondering if I’m perimenopausal. 1 early miscarriage over a year ago. Trying to conceive since Jan 23.) New symptoms since Feb: I’m now quite fatigued and have some bloating/constipation and wake up with lower back pain from this. I also have numbness in an area of my thumb since Nov 22. I’ve also had tinnitus since 2018. I’m not sure if any of this suggests low B12, thyroid or other hormonal issues?

Thank you kindly for any suggestions or advice.

So ferritin levels falling

B12. Have you been tested for Pernicious Anaemia by GP

Vitamin D now good.

How much vitamin D are you now taking to maintain levels

Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors emailed to you, but within the email a link to download list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists

Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations

Thank you very much for replying to me again SlowDragon , I appreciate it.

I’ve yet to ask the GP for any help but will ask to be tested for pernicious anaemia now. Thanks again for the specialist list, I’ve narrowed it down to the ones in my area

I generally take 1500-2000 iu Vitamin D every 1 or 2 days.

Would you say that my thyroid results still indicate a secondary/central hypothyroid issue, or are they better now?

I would say you can’t tell until Ferritin is up to at least 70 and ideally nearer 100
