Anyone taking Lansoprazole as well as Levothyroxine? If so how do you take it? I always take Levo first thing on empty stomach but apparently that’s how you should take Lansoprazole. I have been told I need to take it as I am on daily aspirin and now chemo tablet daily. Anyone else could advise please. Thank you

Is there any mileage in considering taking levothyroxine at bed-time?

Also, Lansoprazole reduces acidity all day - not just when taken. So avoid taking them together but there will likely still be some effect on absorption. However, if you are stuck with this for some time, make sure your levothyroxine dose is checked and adjusted as needed.
Thank you for this, will look into taking Levio at a different time. Yes I will be doing medichecks as don’t get anywhere with gp as they obviously only do annual tsh
Levothyroxine is an extremely fussy hormone and should always be taken on an empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after
Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

No other medication or supplements at same as Levothyroxine, leave at least 2 hour gap.
Some like iron, calcium, magnesium, HRT, omeprazole or Lansoprazole or vitamin D should be four hours away
(Time gap doesn't apply to Vitamin D mouth spray)
If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test
If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal
I am a fellow Hashimotos/underactive thyroid and NStemi recently. Ihave tried numerous combinations of timings for taking pills amd none seem to work. The best I can get is taking Levothyroxine 125 mg when I wake up. I keep them in bedroom so first thing I do. By the time I have have showered etc dried hair amd gone downstairs half an hour or so has passed. I then take my Lansoprozole. I take them both water a 250 ml bottle of water.
I wait another half an hour and eat something maybe one weetabix or small portion of porridge or a yoghurt just to have something on my stomach and take the rest of my pills. Bisopropol aspirin and the Isosorbide. I still get terrible burning stomach. I cannot take teva brand as this causes the same symptoms so just wondering if another brand is similar to teva with the fillers as my local chemist seems to use the cheapest of cheap medicines. For me to feel normal. My Vit D B12 and folate need to be top end of the scale and my TSH needs to be below 1. Best is 0.02 and I feel normal. I self medicate on folate and B12 with solgar products which work best for me. But since nstemi not been taking them. I am awaiting to see consultant to ask whether I can take these again. My current levels are 636 B12 67 Vit d. folate 5 which is too low.
I have changed DRs too. MY new GP tool me off all statins as I was struggling even more to with joint pain muscle pain etc. I now take benecol daily to see if I can keep cholesterol down that way.
Good luck x
You can look through the documentation for all UK licensed medicines here:
Put in the name and choose whether you want the Patient Information Leaflet of the Summary of Product Characteristics.
The search is pretty poor so if will also find any other products which mention the one you are searching for! But the wanted results are usually first.
Then wade through them checking the excipients - in section 6/6.1.
Wish I was 40 years younger to be honest. I would train to be an endocrinologist specialising in Thyroid the ones I have seen are useless. Even paying to go private. The GP told me not to take any vitamins until I went back to see the consultant. Which hopefully is soon. They do keep monitoring my levels to be fair.
well I took lansoprazole for a while.
I tend to take my Levo when I get up to go to loo in middle of night.
I took the lansoprazole about an hour before my lunch. It seemed to do the trick.
yes must admit I didn’t take it for long for that reason.
Is there any possibility of switching to one of the buffered forms of aspirin which might not need the Lansoprazole?
Might be a complete non-starter but I thought it worth asking.
Thank you ! I did swap to the enteric coated aspirin , I wonder if that’s what you mean. They still wouldn’t like it if I didn’t take lansoprazole once prescribed but if I thought it had same effect I wouldn’t care because I am fed up with trying to sort things out myself
That was one possibility. But I thought there were some other forms - generally referred to as "buffered" - but it looks like they are not available. Looks like they seemed like a good idea at the time but didn't really help. That was my mistake!
personally , if i had to be taking an NSAID regularly, (and i think aspirin comes into this category ?) then i'd take the lansoprazole and monitor T4/ TSH/ levels to see if it was reducing absorption of levo.. and if it did , then increase levo dose to compensate for the reduced absorption .
My mum used to take various NSAID's regularly over several years for pain relief , and ended up up in hospital with blood coming from both ends, and was told she mustn't take NSAIDS in future. As far as i know she always took them with food , never on an empty stomach, but she still ended up with serious damage to her gut.
