Thyroid test results

I’ve been taking 200mg of thyroxine for most of my adult life. Now the doctors have reduced to 150mg

I returned to the doctors to say I felt awful. All my symptoms were returning. So they issued another blood test.

They have came back saying my TSH level is too low and reduced my dose even more. So now I’m on 100mg and feeling very deflated and upset wondering where I’m going to be health wise 6 months down the line.

my results are

TSH level 0.4-4.9

T3 level 2.4-6.0

T4 level 9.0-19.0

Hi Deborahdance. This is depressingly common—doctors reacting only to TSH levels.

You’ve posted the laboratory reference ranges for your thyroid blood tests. Could you also post the actual results please?

Oh yes sorry, I didn’t realise

TSH - 0.02 mu/L

T3. - 4.5 pmol/L

T4 - 16.1 pmol/L

Perhaps post some of your old blood test results on 150mcg to compare. How long were you on the new Levo before the most recent tests. You can just refuse to go along with what the Dr says.

Managing your health is supposed to be a partnership. It seems you have a paint by numbers doctor. While numbers are important, they’re only part of the picture. And as you’ve been on a large amount of levothyroxine for a while, it may take some time for your TSH to recover to a level that makes your doctor happy—while leaving you feeling like a limp lettuce. That’s not an experiment I’d want.

Make an appointment and ask to keep your dosage on 150mcg. How many weeks had elapsed since the dose reduction? Was it more than 8 weeks?

yes it was December.

It seems the NHS only do things by the recommended guidance 😫
