Hoping for advice

I have a blood test at 9 am today and took my tablet at 5.45 am by mistake. If I refrain from breakfast, will this at least help or is there no point now and should I eat as normal?

Also, what will it affect, the TSH, T3 or T4 or all of them?

My GP doesn’t normally test like this (he added it on when I asked for vitamins to be tested), but I don’t want my dose changed by any means at the moment as I have changed brands only two weeks ago, and was going to request bloods then, although, I did want to see where they were for now (last test 6 weeks ago privately).

Should I cancel instead and rebook?

Thank you

Hi Sailing14,

I would cancel and rebook.

Worth cancelling or it might just cause an unnecessary battle

Thank you for the advice and to Hedgeree too.

I have other tests at GP request, due to medication I am currently taking for an infection. I was going to ask to postpone the thyroid test part and rebook that or do you think they won’t understand this and cause a fuss?

The HCA is carrying out the test and is usually accommodating.

Perhaps if you say you'd like to hold off with the TSH test due to the infection (rather than dose timing) she might agree or she might just go ahead with what is on her list 🤷‍♀️ but at least it gives you a reason to diss the results if they aren't in your favour 😏 and get a retest

Thanks. This is very helpful. I may cancel and rebook for next Saturday (they usually have a few times available), as there could be unnecessary trouble and stress as we know, if GP makes a wrong decision.

Thanks again.

Taking your levo the morning of the test will just affect the FT4.

Breakfast could affect your TSH, as will the time of day.

I agree with the others, best to reschedule the thyroid tests. And infection could affect it, anyway - raise it. :)

Thanks. I am very grateful for your advice on this. Yes that is true and I never considered an infection can actually do this so I have decided to re-book with having taken the tablet also.

Wise decision. :)

next time ……move your Levo out the way so that you don’t take it on autopilot

Thank you. That is very good of you to also reply.
