I wondered if anyone had ever had similar blood tests and what was the outcome.

Background, I come from a family of dysfunctional thyroids and mine is definitely on the way out. Over the years my thyroid test have swung between subclinical hypo and normal, usually with a TSH around between 3.5-5 and a T4 around 14/15. I've also previously tested positive for TPO antibodies.

My latest bloods are below, so I've definitely got some autoimmune issues going on. But I noticed that everything was heading towards the high side. My GP doesn't think it's worth looking into or monitoring, despite the high antibody levels, but I'm feeling increasingly dreadful and don't know whether it's worth pushing for further investigation. I'd even pay privately at this point if I thought anything would be done. Thanks for your help!

TSH: 3.850 mIU/l (ref 0.35-5.5)

FT4: 18.90 pmol/l (ref 11.9 -21.6)

FT3: 5.84 pmol/l (ref 3.1-6.8)

What time of day was this blood test? TSH varies throught the day and to get highest TSH test at 9am or earlier and only drink water before the test for consistent results.

Your TSH is above 2 which isn't great but has a way to go before its obove range.

To get a diagnosis on the NHS and begin treatment you need 2 TSH results above range, 3 months apart.

Currently in this test your free hormone results look pretty good.

Free T4 (fT4) 18.9 pmol/L (11.9 - 21.6) 72.2%

Free T3 (fT3) 5.84 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 74.1%

I would expect to see FT4 much lower in range once you get closer to needing treatment.

With positive antibodies you have autoimmune hypothyroidism which can wax and wane over many years before your TSH goes above range.

Its important during this time to test key vitamin levels as when hypo we get low stomach acid and cant absorb vitamins well from our food. This gives further symptoms which can be helped by supplementing with vitamins.

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

Do you know if you had positive thyroid antibodies? Many with autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's benefit from a gluten free diet. A smaller percentage of those also need to remove dairy from their diet to feel well. These are intolerances and will not show up on any blood test.
