Has anyone any experience of alternatives? Bugleweed herb? Or motherwort for palpatations?

Hi everyone, normally would fit profile of hypo, always tired, cold, hard to lose weight etc so doc put symptoms down to perimenopause, but a suspected heart episode one night led me to ask for bloods.TSH 0.01, T4, 49 and hypercalcemia both serum and adjusted. Decided to pay for ultrasound, three 6mm nodules high vascularity and enlargement on right side. Because of the elevated calcium I asked for a PTH parathyroid bloodtest, came back 'normal' was bit upset because I was hoping it would be low.

Hate Carbimazole doc gave me 20mgs as a titration to shock the thyroid then plan to reduce to 5mgs? Not mad about this as my TPO antibodies are 40 I also have endometriosis so not crazy about shocking my already anxious immune system. Never good with meds always sensitive so i decided to take 5 mgs, was doing okay along with 1.25mgs of propranalol beta blocker. Then the last two nights I thought maybe try another t mgs, last night no sleep e ery symptom of a heart attack, gripping pain, arms jaw chest nausea etc. Decided to lie with legs up wall to take pressure off my heart and just deep breathe. Woke up about 4am cold so must have nodded off.

So all my adult life I have had low white blood cellls and bigh bilirubin (not gilberts syndrome) doctor just shrugs, I really hate this Carbimazole, also have sore jaw since starting.

I lost my dad very suddenly (hidden cancer) my best friend two years ago and it has been heartbreaking for our family. I decided I would try a functional approach to this as I really want to find the root cause.

I believe grief plays a huge part also I was taking sensilab thyrolux, adrenalux and oestralux last year only for about two months to try help the supposed perimenopause lack of energy.

Functional herb doc thinks I didn't need the extra iodine and I created hot nodules against this while my system was suppressed with grief and stress. Carbimazole does zilch for nodules so hoping for radio ablation. Not keenon radioactive anything especially with risk of leukemia after.

Love anyones thoughts, starting to feel really down about this it came out if nowhere! Keep well everyone hope we get some answers and new treatments!

I believe radioiodine is 100 years old

Sending love and hopes xx

Hi tbere yep TPO levels are 40 double what they should be I was told, and high calcium again, TSH 0.01, T4 49, ferritin 38, B12, 520 (even though I nearly never eat meat, am on plant based, gluten free) vitamin D is 90. The pain in my chest from palpitations is worst symptom, thanks

You need TSI or Trab antibodies tested to confirm if you have Graves Disease

TPO and TG antibodies can be high with Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease

Your Ft4 is far too high. You need to get level lower

Ferritin is virtually deficient

Aiming to get ferritin up at least over 70

Extremely difficult to maintain iron/ferritin on plant based diet

Get FULL iron panel test for anaemia

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

Serum ferritin level is the biochemical test, which most reliably correlates with relative total body iron stores. In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency.

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

Medichecks iron panel test

medichecks.com/products/iro...

Meanwhile Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

List of iron rich foods

dailyiron.net

High B12 can be deceptive

If on plant based diet you should be taking daily B12 and daily vitamin B complex

High calcium

Are you taking vitamin D supplements - how much

If yes are you also taking vitamin k2 mk7 to help direct increase in calcium to bones rather than in blood

Vitamin K2 mk7

Test calcium, pTH and vitamin D together

Not possible to test privately as this test has to be processed immediately

Ps yep TPO antibodies over 40 but no eye problems? Thinking primary hyperthyroidism caused by funtioning autonomous nodules so hoping to get some bugleweed and radio ablation, I dont think its Graves

Have you had ultrasound to confirm nodules

You need to get TSI or Trab tested to confirm (or deny) Graves’ disease

Hashimoto’s frequently starts with temporary hyperthyroid results and symptoms before becoming increasingly hypothyroid…..this is due to cells in thyroid breaking down and releasing excess thyroid hormones

Thanks yep I was thinking the same, I had ultrasound and three 6mm nodules on right sude which is swollen Radiologist impression reads 'thyroiditis no suspicious features', can only seem to get TPO antibody test here in Ireland

You can test TPO and TG antibodies here

Request your GP or endo test TSI or Trab antibodies

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Updated reference ranges for top of ferritin range depending upon age

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thank you for your incredible patience while you have been awaiting the outcome of our ferritin reference range review. We conducted this with Inuvi lab, which has now changed the reference ranges to the following:

Females 18 ≤ age < 40. 30 to 180

Females 40 ≤ age < 50. 30 to 207

Females 50 ≤ age < 60. 30 to 264l

Females Age ≥ 60. 30 to 332

Males 18 ≤ age < 40 30 to 442

Males Age ≥ 40 30 to 518

The lower limits of 30 are by the NICE threshold of <30 for iron deficiency. Our review of Medichecks data has determined the upper limits. This retrospective study used a large dataset of blood test results from 25,425 healthy participants aged 18 to 97 over seven years. This is the most extensive study on ferritin reference ranges, and we hope to achieve journal publication so that these ranges can be applied more widely.
