My brother has been on 75 mcg Accord T4 for a couple of weeks ( will re test in four weeks)
When diagnosed he was very hypo and feeling awful
TSH. 20
FT4. 8. (12-22)
FT3. 4.3. (3-6)
Is there a connection between hypo and gallstones? I took my brother to A&E three days ago and he is still in hospital. He has had two ultrasound’s and this morning he will be having an MRI. He is on a drip for antibiotics as he has an infection in his gallbladder..
He will hopefully know this afternoon what course of action they are going to take
Thank you

There is a connection, yes. But I couldn't tell you what it is. Most hypos end up having their gall bladders removed, though. I lost mine not long after I was diagnosed.
For decades, one well-known risk factor for the development of gallbladder stones has been hypothyroidism. Recent studies have interestingly reported that the risk in particular for common bile duct (CBD) stones increases in clinical and subclinical hypothyroidism. There are multiple factors that may contribute to the formation and/or accumulation of CBD stones in hypothyroid patients, including decreased liver cholesterol metabolism, diminished bile secretion, and reduced sphincter of Oddi relaxation. This paper focuses on the mechanisms possibly underlying the association between hypothyroidism and CBD stones. The authors conclude that when treating patients with CBD stones or microlithiasis, clinicians should be aware of the possible hypothyroid background.
Thank you slowDragon.. my brother is on IV antibiotics 3x a day, he’s taking 75T4 (accord ) bedtime.. do you think he should put his Thyroxine up to 100mcg as he has high inflammation and waiting for surgery? Also should he stop supplements? X
