Private Test Results

Hi

I've just got my private test results and would like to know if these are ok. The test was only a cheap one so don't have any vitamin results.

I have been taking T3 1 x 20mg for 2 weeks now and although my GP said I should have a test after 6 weeks, I decided to do a private test. The main reason to take a test was that I had never known what type of low thyroid I had nor have I ever been tested for antibodies.

I did my test as recommended.

Looking at my results my TSH has fallen off the scale, my FT4 has reduced slightly and my FT3 is up to a normal range.

Test done on 10th Oct 2023 by hospital.

TSH 2.49 mlU/L (0.38-5.33)

FT4 23.7 pmol/L (9.0-19.1)

FT3 2.97 pmol/L (2.9-4.9)

No TPO and Tg taken

Home Test done on 26th Feb 2024

TSH 0.041mlU/l (5.5)

FT4 25.30 pmol/l (<11.9-<21.6

FT3 4.97 pmol/l (0.60)

Anti TPO 147.2 kU/l (60.0)

Anti Tg 320 lU/ml (115.0)

The report said my results were indicative of hyperthyroidism but I just think the T3 I'm taking is working. I don't have any symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I feel better, I'm sleeping better and I even feel warmer.

Thanks

They're just looking at the TSH. Take no notice.

my FT4 has reduced slightly

Looks to me like it's risen. But you haven't given a range.

But if you started on T3 at 20 mcg two weeks ago, these results don't mean much. For a start 20 is too high a dose to start on, so it will take your body a while to adapt and settle down. And two weeks is much too soon to get meaningful results, anyway. Your doctor was right.

You have Hashi's, according to those antibodies.

Thanks, that is mostly what I thought. I was mostly looking for a confirmation of Hashimoto. Is it normal for the antibodies to be so high.

They're not particularly high, I've see higher. But the actual level doesn't matter. You just need to know if they're positive, and they are.

Thanks for your help. It may seem daft but I feel a bit better knowing what kind of low thyroid I have.

No, it's not daft. We need to know these things.

Ideally you should have cut 20mcg tablet into 1/4’s and only started with 5mcg

SLOWLY increasing to 3 x 5mcg over 3-6 weeks

The range on Ft3 result is not correct …..should it be same as first test?

Suggest you reduce T3 by 5mcg

Retest in 6 weeks

How much levothyroxine are you taking

Was dose reduced before adding T3

Not what you're looking for?
