We just don't absorb well so supplementing the things that struggle is the norm, do you take Vit C with the iron? Have you tried a bit of apple cider vinegar or pepsin HCI to aid stomach acid?
It could be that your iron level is going up as it uses up the extra ferritin, this is what I find that my ferritin holds pretty steady at around 60 (on a holding dose now) but my iron serum level is now good with little room for extra iron so I don't risk over supplementing
Three Arrows Heme iron is the most effective and least hassle...
For nearly a year I was taking the ferrous fumarate tablets @ 210mg they got my ferritin up to 89!
So then I just thought that I could take a normal maintenance dose of 20mg alongside eating red meat and greens… but that doesn’t seem to be the case… as it has dropped again… clearly us hashi people have to maintain it on a high dose 😟
I think 20mg of ferrous fumarate provides about 7mg of elemental iron with quite a low absorption rate, I'm finding 40mg heme per week is holding me at 60 with good iron levels 🤷♀️
I've no experience of FF but I hear it's a long slow route for many, it would seem like 210mg for raising and then possibly a third of it for maintenance?
my ferritin is 9 (it used to be 3), so I would be happy to have your results 😁 Perhaps try nano iron, it’s plant based and meant to be easily absorbable.
Please could you tell me what nano iron is and where to obtain it? My ferritin is scrapes along at the bottom of the range even on prescribed ferrous fumarate and I am vegan so would love to find something plant based that works
yes I am somehow and I’m raising 4-year old twins, working full time, recently been diagnosed with Graves etc. I have very low energy but have no choice I have to keep going as I am.
