Folate

I did a full bloods Medichecks test. They have emailed me saying:

Unfortunately, they were unable to process your folate biomarker. The results the lab were able to process, will be uploaded once they have been reviewed by a member of the medical team for you.

I’m a bit non-plussed as I stopped taking my BetterYou B12 spray 3 weeks before testing.

very common for folate test to fail

Are they sending a new test kit

Their reply is:- Please be aware that folate has a higher-than-normal failure rate on finger-prick samples. Due to customer demand we have made a finger-prick option available for this test. This means that no retests for folate will be provided. By ordering a finger-prick kit for this test you agreed that you will only be entitled to a refund of £8 should this happen. For more information, please see our terms and conditions.

3 weeks is too long to stop just a B12 spray.

You only need to stop a B complex 4-7 days maximum before a test.

Careful preparation before doing the finger prick test can help eliminate failing. Blood cells can easily be damaged by squeezing the finger.

Unfortunately the only way I can get enough blood was to squeeze my ring finger so that may well apply. I’ve always had to do that but this is the first time I haven’t had a folate result
