Currently looking at adrenal supplements saw from an old post on here a product recommendation and used by a Dr P but this has been discontinued now and the closest product is this one. Thorne Advanced Adrenal Cortex.
Any feedback on these supplements or similar support please and what supplements to take when?
I know I have poor adrenal function from previous HRT hormonal testing and that report suggested ashwanga supplements but not sure about that as looking it up I have low ish blood pressure and think it’s contra indicated for that.
Currently taking b vit complex innegus ( stopped for a week for new bloods) methyl folate, nicontanimide (b3 for skin issue), d vit with k, just starting magnesium yesterday, take fish oil and read vit c supplements help adrenals too which I don’t but could take.
I have low appetite which I discussed on another post. I was a supplement virgin previously and now it feels like I’m taking a lot but I’ve been reading so much and am ok with it provided nothing’s contra indicated and I’m taking them correctly. Also on DHEA as part of HRT.
No diagnosis. Awaiting private consultation. I suspect hypo and hashi as bloods in normal range but TS4 and 3 low and so are vitamins. It could also be a pituitary problem I think but my mind gets a bit scrambled with everything. 🤷♀️
Thanks

I am just starting with Thorne Adrenal Cortex (not advanced)! I took one per day for nine days and it made me feel slightly over medicated - I think. I have stopped just at the moment because I want to do a blood test to see if anything new has happened after increasing my Vit D for a while.
I am reading Dr. Sarah Myhill and Paul Robinson for some definitive info on cortisol support.
So far I find it’s difficult to find definitive information on dosage for adrenal support, why and when etc, plus already taking levothyroxine. I am a complete novice really but I hope by attempting to answer your post other more knowledgable people will come on and answer you. I am interested in what you will be told.
I am perhaps over tentative. Others seem to be able to embrace all this with gusto.
I would really like to get more info on this myself!
Thanks, yes I’m embracing more supplements than I ever imagined but I’m not wanting to overdo it either. I’m not diagnosed, only self diagnosed so far thanks to Dr Durant-Petersfield’s book but that’s an older book now. I was hoping to help my adrenals out prior to getting any treatment but I might hang fire first and see what the other supplements do. I think giving up caffeine is supposed to help adrenal function but currently that’s a step too far for me. I might try reduce from my current 2 cups to 1. 😢 There’s a post about the predecessor to the thorne product but it’s 10 years old and so the product they were talking about on that is no longer available. On a plus note the book I’m reading says adrenal supplements aren’t for the long term. Just to help support poor adrenal functioning whilst the thyroid is getting resolved and once the thyroid is in a better place it allows the adrenals to not over function. That was the gist of it anyway. It does get complicated and I bought a really simple book!
“I think giving up caffeine is supposed to help adrenal function but currently that’s a step too far for me.”
I missed that one but as I don’t drink coffee maybe I just skimmed over it. However I do have a list that I have found ‘difficult’ and thinking “a step too far”! Going Gluten Free (GF) - still working on that, even although I have noticed a significant improvement when managing to do GF. It’s eating out (a massive treat) is too difficult to give up, so far! Using a CPAP machine. I so did not want that, I was pretty sure I did not snore (the indignity)! It took me six months to come to terms with that (and perhaps not fully even yet). However I found a number of ‘missing bits’ of my jigsaw by using it. It’s eventually proved extremely very useful. I could go on.
Supplements as you have highlighted, as so many which are recommended you actually have no idea if they are working. One just has to hope they are contributing to improvements on the ‘whole’.
The ones that can be measured by blood tests are more convincing. I have been trying to up my Vit D in particular as I have lots of muscle issues. I think it has helped but I did a blood test this morning to check. Most importantly my conversion from T4 to T3 is c..p, so that’s what I’d really like to see improving, since I am having so much trouble with T3 - hence the attention now to adrenals (wrong order off course) because I was unaware of this issue really until I had been on thyroid meds for a good while. Well done you for paying attention to adrenals so early on in your quest!
Good to know the adrenal support might not be necessary for ever. It would be great if something could get ticked off my list!
Post again and let me/us know how you are getting on.
Yes, I have reports I need to go back and look at all the graphs but adrenal insufficiency was definitely mentioned in one of them. A book I’m reading by Dr Petersfield-Durant mentioned starting adrenal support prior to thyroid supplementation but I’m a little while off getting thyroid treatment I think because my bloods are within range currently although my TSH is creeping up at 2.4 and my TS3 and 4 are low but apparently I’m good! I need to look at my previous results and reread the section of the book. It makes sense to support the adrenals first but I’m a bit sketchy on how. I’m on DHEA anyway so don’t want to overdo anything and overwhelm my system further.
When I say ‘he’ there was a seminar on the internet today about all this stuff. I only saw the info from another member. I think it’s being put on YouTube. Worth watching when it’s released. I need to watch it again.
