Recent thyroid blood tests results are different ?

I usually have low TSH results as I am taking Armour natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) but this time the results from the surgery show serum TSH level (XaELV) as 16.8miu/L (0.34-5.6) - speaking to GP on Thursday any advice ? Been feeling ok tho always difficulty Going to sleep and losing weight - recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure - is this related?

serum T4 (XaERr) is 8.4 pmol/L (7.7-15.1)

These are the only tests they agree to do but will be booking private one

Thank you

Hi Montheone

You are right that is unexpected to have such a high TSH especially when taking Armour. If you have previously had a far lower TSH on the same dose 🤔

Have you had any other health issues recently or do you have any other long term health problems besides an under active thyroid?

helvella what do you reckon to this? Could it be a batch of duff Armour

It would definitely be one of the possibilities than needs to be considered.

Definitely need to be sure it was obtained through official channels as a first step.

Only high blood pressure recent and not sleeping at night till late (3am) - long term

However I bought the 3gm dose as it was cheaper than 2 gm and having been taking 1/2 tablets to keep the dosage at the same level but maybe not succeeding ?

I would say that is likely possibility.

Normally taking 2 but now on half of 3 = 1.5 which is a third reduction- pretty massive drop.. sometimes with what we might consider small number the difference between them, relatively speaking, can be quite big.

It is really a balancing act. Sounds like you have identified the most likely cause talking it through with us. 😊👍

I would wonder about the batch of armour. High blood pressure can be a symptom of low hormone levels.

thank you everyone - Armour was on private prescription from registered pharmacist - I have a whole bottle left - so wondering whether to continue to take them or up the dose ?

Go back to what you should be on, and test again in say 3 weeks to see if the TSH is moving up or down. Moving up would show a duff batch of Amour, moving down would show you needed the original dose. Good luck, and let us know.
