Question for the forum -
I had read 100 mcgs/day of K was the usual recommendation.
This article says 100 mcg PER every 1,000 IUs of vitamin D.
Anyone have any expertise/knowledge to share?
(Also - in terms of eating with some amount of fat in a meal - does everyone make sure to do this?)
You could do no worse than look up some of SeasideSusie ‘s past posts on Vitamins D and K-MK7.
I did do that, and concluded 100 mcg a day.
This is the first article I’ve seen that says more.
Wondering what everyone else does - assuming everyone/many (?) takes it with their D, and assuming many many people take D.
Would love to hear from anyone taking D, how much K they take.

True MK7 is better - because it’s longer lasting as well.
But TiggerMe does this thread make you think you need a minimum of 100 mcg.
If not triple that because it’s PER 1000 ius?
I've been following the 100mcg of K2 per 1,000 IU of vitamin D as advised on the forum. The article states 'ideal optimal ratios between vitamin d and vitamin K2 have yet to be elucidated ' and then the suggestion by the naturopathic physician is to have 100mcg for every 1000 IUs of vitamin D. So this would appear to be one person's viewpoint rather than a general medical consensus. The article does go on to say that K2 "appears" to be non toxic. Soooo, I think what I will do is this. To avoid getting insufficient vitamin K2, which by the guidelines in the article is the case at the moment, I will increase my vitamin K2 intake moderately. Not doubling my intake every day as suggested here but 200mcg three times a week. Taking the middle ground seems sensible. To answer your question about eating with fat in a meal, I take my K2 with Brazil nuts just before my evening meal.

Yes, that’s been my thought process - only I had never read the 100 PER 1000
I had just read 100 per day. I did a deep dive in the past month and although hard to find, concluded that Seaside Susie’s posts had said 100 a day.
Agree the toxicity noted as not studied, and this makes me lean conservative too.
But now I really am curious - for all the people on this forum who are undoubtedly taking D supplements… how much K they are actually taking!
And I am about to add K myself. Was all queued up for 100 a day. Should I do 100 per 1000 of the D I am taking?!?!?!!
MorningI have read the importance of vitamin K2 and was advised to look into the benefits of nattokinase. Unfortunately I was hospitalised at the end of November with a pulmonary embolism and have been put on blood thinners. They reiterated the importance of these pills for me at the moment and I have read that K2 interacts with blood thinners and warfarin and affects the efficiency. Will definitely look into it if and when I stop taking them
That depends which blood thinner you are taking. The modern ones are fine with vitamin K because they reduce the amount of factor Xa. The older one, Coumadin (Warfarin) reduces prothrombin. Vitamin K is needed to produce prothrombin, so large does of vitamin K will reduce the efficacy of warfarin.
is it necessary to take the k2 at the same time as the D3?
My k2 is a tablet which I assume needs some fat for absorption so I avoid taking it with my D3 so there’s no competition between the two for the fat. Quite often I take the D3 then forget to take the k2 later.
However I only take my D3 two or three times a week (5000 each dose) whereas I aim to take the k2 most days.
Do I need to take the k2 on days I’m not taking the D3?
Also, are both forms of k2 good. Mk4 and Mk7?
There seem to be articles that tell you to take them together and others that say take them 12 hours apart! It's just easier to take them in the morning together so you don't forget. My tablets have them both together in the same pill anyway. I just make sure to take extra fat then I don't have to worry about the competition.
