The December 2023 NHS Drug Tariff has been published and my blog has been updated.

Changes from last month

The tariff price for Liothyronine 5microgram tablets has dropped to 12325 (from 12350).

❗️See the blog post for full explanation.

Thanks Helvella. Forgive me I'm probably being dense but what do the number you quote in your post mean? How do they translate to a monetary cost.? Thanks

Sorry scotch that.... You explain it in your blog!! 🙄😂 Thanks!!

I thought it better to keep all the explanation together in the blog!

The mention of the price in the monthly post is just to act as a headline - primarily for those who are already aware.

Completely agree Helvella. Much better for it to be on the blog. Great explanation by the way.. Thank u! By the way am curious about the NHS prices paid for Armour Thyroid & Erfa. How do I check those?

Feel it's good to keep abreast in this changing world!!

They are not tariff prices. Afraid I don't know how to find out.

Maybe openprescribing.net/ have the information? Otherwise, contact NHSBSA and ask!

Thanks Helvella. It's not listed. I'll ask my pharmacy. 😊

Armour is listed - but no pricing information.

Thanks Helvella. 😊 I put it in the search bar but nothing came up. So it remains as just the two NDT/ DTE....I'll ask my pharmacy if they know the price.

I don't want to change. It does take time for the body to adjust to a different brand even if it has the same active T4/T3 ratio.

It certainly isn't obvious!

Thank you Helvella for searching for me. I really appreciated it. Maybe they dont want it to be obvious and admit its on their list!! 😉🤣😂I've been to see an Endo recently.... Private but also works as a NHS Endo. He wanted to know how I'd managed to get it prescribed on the NHS. He was delighted for me and backed me but said I was his first patient that he'd met who had achieved this. What an incredibly sad state of affairs it is that it's soooo hard to get when for some of us it's the best solution and restores our health. And without it we cost the NHS more and suffer. Twisted and bonkers....

I think it is because of the way the underlying data is organised.

Medicines are arranged by active ingredient - and they consider desiccated thyroid to be "levothyroxine + liothyronine".

All NHS medicine information (at least, in England & mostly Wales) comes from the dm+d database.

helvella – Dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d)

The NHS’ dm+d is a dictionary of descriptions and codes which represent medicines and devices in use across the NHS. The dm+d data is refreshed weekly and contains a huge variety of information.
