Never ceases to amaze me how the price of Liothyronine 20mcg was allowed to rise to £258 for 28 tablets! So many had this life changing medication withdrawn because of that (thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones who didn’t) and yet here it is today dropping below the price it was when I was first prescribed it over 12 years ago…
I hope that petition is still going strong and that we may see some good coming out of that price gouging disaster!
I've just been in hospital for 10 days (bowel obstruction. emergency surgery, highly traumatic and not what I had planned for Christmas! ).
Going through all the meds I'm taking, and obviously liothyronine is one of them. My official prescription is for 60mcg per day, but I actually take 75mcg per day (and all of the pharmacists and Drs I spoke to at hospital were absolutely fine about me taking this amount which I was pleasantly surprised about).
Anyway, they kept on saying they'd order me some tablets. I told them not to worry about it, as I had plenty at home, and my husband would bring them in, but they insisted they would get me some. Every single time they said this, I said to my husband that there is no chance I'd actually get them, due to the cost. And every single time, they came back, and told me they weren't actually able to get them for me (didn't say due to cost, but I'm certain that would be the reason).
I didn't mind, I was expecting it, and actually found it mildly amusing. Obviously I'm fortunate that I have my own stash at home, so it wasn't an actual problem, as then I wouldn't have found it quite so funny!
