Hello,
Can anyone tell me if they have taken out-of-date NDT? I have read that it may just be a little less effective but not harmful. Is this the case?
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if they have taken out-of-date NDT? I have read that it may just be a little less effective but not harmful. Is this the case?
Pretty much.
Assuming that it has been stored sensibly. And especially when it is only modestly beyond expiry date.
I have not taken Erfa but Thyroid-S one year after the expiry date. I noticed no difference at all. In the past, I have taken expired levo (within a year of date of expiry) and did not notice any difference either. I have read that drugs are meant to remain effective for years after the date of expiry.
My lab results did not look any different either.
Thank you!
Yes. I've taken out of date NDT & they all worked perfect. I do always keep my NDT in a bag in my fridge so that may if helped to keep the tablets "Fresh"
Refrigerators are not necessarily a good idea. Especially those with auto-defrost.
The temperatures can vary wildly during the defrost cycle - which positively warms the system. Not enough to affect things of significant mass - like a pint of milk. But enough to warm small things - like individual tablets. And then, when they switch to cooling down again, small things can actually freeze.
Also, the tendency to cause condensation when the cold tablets are removed from the refrigerator. So any packaging needs to be 100% hermetically sealed.
