Started on ERFA on Monday. Slight tremors Mon and Tues now gone. I can feel the energy levels rising which is great news. Only down side is heartburn, has anyone else had this with ERFA? If so does it settle? I am taking Gaviscon at the moment.

How long have you been having heartburn. Why I ask is that if you are hypothyroid the most common reason is that our stomach acid is low rather than high.

Did you have to take Gaviscon before you began Erfa.?

Hypothyroid and low acid can go hand-in-hand and I have found taking a Betaine/pepsin tablet with a meal, particularly protein helpful and I've had no problems since. Others also take some Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water or juice during a meal and have also found that helpful.

You will see on this link that there has been studies done on hypo/acid,

Oh that explains it then, yes I have been hypothyroid since Feb really as couldn't get back to my normal dose of Levothyroxin as I developed an adverse reaction to it, then the last three weeks it had got so bad I was unable to take anything. That's very helpful to know that. Is there any particular over the counter pharmacy pepsin that you know?

I buy mine throught the Amazon Affiliate link which gives Thyroiduk.org.uk a very small commission for anything you buy and the betaine etc on the second link.

Because everything slows down with hypo i.e. pulse, temp digestion it takes time to get back to 'normal' i.e. as meds increase pulse temp should rise but doesn't always come back to 'normal' but we feel warmer and pulse rises.

The site was very informative, I am going to try cider apple vinegar or possibly lemon juice as I drink lemon and ginger and that would go with it. Then Betaine if I need anything else.

Yes, that's a good idea. It's amazing what we have to learn as we don't (doctors too) realise what goes on with our bodies when hormones are out of whack. :)

I seem to be learning an awful amount just lately. I ran out of lemon and ginger tea at the beginning of the week when I started on ERFA, no wonder I had heartburn. I have got some pure lemon juice to add to the tea, now I am back on the lemon and ginger it's eased a lot, so I think with the lemon juice it might be OK if not I will get the pepsin.

That's good if it's helping you. At least you know the reason if what you're doing eases the pain.
