Headache on Metavive - but improved blood results

I am on 1 gr of ndt and wanted to add a glandular that might improve my numbers, while keeping the cost down. I added one Metavive I and here are my recent labs.

TSH 0.73 (0.27-4.2) (previously 1.59)

FT3 5.5 (3.1-6.8) (previously 4.3)

FT4 11.8 (12-22) (previously 10.4)

However, I’ve been getting horrible headaches and have put it down to the Metavive I.

Can anyone advise if a change in type/brand of glandular might resolve this please?

Lynneypin,

I have experienced headaches in the past when changing my thyroid med dose.

High FT3 and low FT4 are often seen in members who take glandulars but not everyone can feel well with FT4 levels that low. We all have our own T4:T3 individual ratio for best function and if these were my results I would be looking to raise FT4 levels by either increasing NDT or introducing a little bit of Levo.

I'm not a fan of glandulars and am presenting medicating NDT and Levo as found the NDT too T3 potent.

Thank you for your reply. Are you in the UK? If so, was your gp ok with prescribing levo when you were already on NDT?

Lynneypin,

I'm in the UK and yes, GP prescribes Levo for me but I am under an endo again.

I self medicated NDT for a few years and when I requested my Levo be reinstated GP said as it hadn't been prescribed for a few years I can't need it any more 😳. They didn't believe I had been self medicating. By that time I had also bought Levo as well as NDT so I showed them the invoices and they reinstated my Levo prescription.

Now as NDT is so flippin' expensive to buy abroad, I have a private endo prescribe it which even with consultation fees is no more expensive, so GP is now happy.

What a fight!

Crikey.

My GP is aware I’m self medicating on NDT. So it may be worth asking him.

Are your costs no less at all going the private endo route? It’s soooo costly.

Lynneypin,

The cost of a private prescription for NDT is the same from Roseway no matter who prescribes it, so the final cost is dependant upon your endos/private doctors consultation fees. Some members use Roseway pharmacist/private doctor which I believe is the most reasonable. I'm using someone else atm with functional practices as have mould issues being addressed but plan to switch over at some point.
