Higher pulse than average

I’m quite fit but am feeling as though I’ve run a marathon - heart rate up and air hungry . I have UAT and take Armour Thyroid. I’ve reduced the dose from 1 grain am and pm to 1 am and 1/2 pm but it hasn’t made any difference. This has been happening for about two weeks now. I also take HRT, vitamin D and antihistamine for allergy. Any suggestions?

Air hunger is a hypo symptom. So, perhaps you should have increased your dose, rather than decreased it. :)

Thank you I did wonder but was worried about the raised heartbeat - I’m quite fit and 88 seems high and I’ve never had that before!

Your pulse really isn’t too fast, 88bpm is actually a normal rate.

Low Iron - B12 -Folate could be an issue ?

Karen-Eleanor profile image
Karen-Eleanor in reply toMarz

I take B12 weekly and a B Complex daily but may be I should find a test.

When supplementing B12 - tests are of little value as results are skewed.... which B12 and how much are you taking ?

I’m taking Solgar B12 1000 mcg once a week

Which B complex do you take? Is it a methylated version at high dose?

Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

There is also a new company offering walk in & mail order blood tests in Crawley, Hove and Reigate areas. No charge for blood draw in clinic. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Hello Karen-Eleanor :

Is your diagnosis Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease ?

How long have you been on this dose ?

Karen-Eleanor profile image
Karen-Eleanor in reply topennyannie

It’s secondary hypothyroidism but I did have antibodies at the beginning.

pennyannie profile image

Antibodies tend to fluctuate and are not constant -

so presume you have a diagnosis of Hashimoto's Auto Immune Thyroid Disease an will be liable to erratic own thyroid hormone production which can cause swings in symptoms - and symptoms resembling hyper type symptoms - bot swings swing back - and when this happens - your thyroid will be further compromised offering you less support and you likely needing an increase in thyroid hormone replacement.

Does this sound like what is going on ?

Do you have actual blood results that you can share with us? I'm not seeing any in your previous posts.

What are your latest results for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?

Suggest you need a full thyroid test...but not until you 've been on a steady dose for 6+ weeks

1 grain ndt = 38mcg T4 + 9mcg T3....if you multiply up you'll see your 1.5 grain dose isn't huge!.

In some cases antihistamines can affect the effect of THs if they are not well managed.

When did you start HRT?

HRT can affect the way thyroid medication.is absorbed...dose increase is often necessary....

So, you need labs to guide this

Minimum...TSH, FT4 and FT3

I’m taking Utrogestan and Oestrogel for about 3 years and Kliovance before that . Been on HRT for 9 years.

OK so not a recent addition.

So....testing possibly followed by dose increase.

I can only say that for me breathlessness on exertion is a definite Hypo sign. It is a different feeling from Asthma when airways feel constricted. It feels more like my diaphragm or diaphragmatic muscles aren't functioning efficiently to pull air into my lungs.

I would think it's a Hypo sign not enough NDT. I have only experienced it once when on too low a dose.

Thank you everyone for all you suggestions. Below are the last two sets of results and the B Complex I’m taking.

Vitamins D level / taking 5,000 plus Vitamin K2 100 and Magnesium 600
