High t3

Hi All,

I posted here not so long ago. The endocrinologist wanted me to reduce my t3 significantly and add in levo. I had a bad reaction and symptoms to the levo so I stopped taking it and went back on t3. The problem might be that I went back on my original dose of t3.

I just had blood test and it shows that my t3 is 11.5 (should be 3.9 -7 on the results I have).my tsh is 0.01 and my t4 is 5.9 which is a lot higher than usual. It is usually nearly nothing 1.9 or something.

I did take the blood test about 6 hours after my last dose. I didn't realise the GP was checking the t3 because I went fof bloods for another reason.

The only symptoms I'm having are difficulty sleeping, sore breast and swollen feet.

What should I do? Should I reduce my dose then increase after a few weeks slowly.

Thanks in advance for your help

As you took your T3 blood test about 6 hours after your last dose your results would be void.

This is the procedure when having a blood test to check thyroid hormones:-

It is a fasting test at the earliest time and we don't take thyroid hormones before the test. Take them after the blood draw with a glass of water and wait an hour before you eat.

You can tell the endocrinologist that you made an error and took thyroid hormones before your blood test when it should have been after.

I only recovered my health on T3 and all the other options didn't work for me.

If you are having a blood test for thyroid hormones, it should always be at the earliest time. Always be truthful and tell doctors how you feel after taking thyroid hormones.

So don't take my morning dose?

I just read somewhere on here about biotin. I'm taking supplements. I read this can cause abnormal results is this right?

Yes you should stop anything containing biotin for several days prior as biotin disrupts the testing process at the lab.

Thank you. I will make sure I get my bloods retested. Hopefully the results will be back in my normal range

No thyroid hormones before blood draw - take them afterwards.

Day before test split T3 into 3 smaller doses spread through the day

Last dose T3 approximately 8-12 hours before test

Important to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Weirdly my haemoglobin and iron have gone back into normal range. Before taking t3 it was extremely low and I haven't changed my diet or anything so maybe its the t3 or the multivitamins but I haven't been taken them that long

multivitamins never recommended on here

What were most recent vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin results

Improving low Ft3 will improve low stomach acid, leading to better absorption of nutrients, improving vitamin levels as result
