NDT+supplements?

Finally after many years of suspecting I am hypothyroid, I have found a doctor to prescribe me NDT-30 mgs morning & afternoon.

I take many meds & supplements at every meal & bedtime, but from investigating I am most concerned by magnesium-which I take after breakfast/lunch/dinner- and calcium after lunch.

Please can someone tell me what the situation is re NDT & magnesium and so what I need to do.

i have waited SO many years to get a thyroid medication & I really need to get it right

All help & guidance would be very much appreciated. Many thanks

Evelyn

PS- Do calcium foods like yogurt & cheese count or is it just supplements.

What are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results

NDT is typically taken as 2 smaller doses per day

Initially you will start on small dose, morning only

Dose is increased SLOWLY upwards, usually increasing by 1/4 grain at a time

Magnesium and calcium supplements should be at least 4 hours away

Food.

If eating high calcium food for breakfast, it’s fine as long as you always eat that same thing most days

"NDT is typically taken as 2 smaller doses per day" slowdragon this isn't true. NDT is typically prescribed daily but some people find it works better for them twice or even 3xs daily....simular to those on liothyronine. I take mine daily since my vits mins were optimised & going strictly GF. My prescription actually had on it "once daily" 😊

Many thanks for your reply.😊 I have slowly increased NDT to 30 mg twice a day-morning & afternoon as doctor recommended & that’s all fine. But used to have electrolytes ( with magnesium) post breakfast and then magnesium supplement after lunch and dinner. If I have to leave a 4 hour gap then I don’t see how I can fit them all in. That’s the problem. My magnesium is low and I have a ‘ fragile’ gut which makes it impossible to take a large dose of magnesium. once a day. Any ideas!?

Also- no I don’t always eat the same thing for breakfast/lunch every day- is that a problem.?

Have you tried transdermal magnesium? I try to take any supplements I can this way to take the strain off my timings and my gut, Better You has a range...

I use their Magnesium & Calcium lotion and buy a sack of Epsom salts which I add to the bath a couple of times a week

Timing of ndt and supplements was a major concern of mine and from experimenting around I was able to find how my body absorbed things. I take magnesium twice and a whole bunch of supplements.

If you list everything you take you may get some suggestions.

My current dosing routine:

530-6am -- 1 grain of NDT

10am - 200mg magnesium, Ashwagandha, Thorne Ferrasorb , b complex , fish oil

12pm---- 1 Ancestral supplement Thyroid glandular

1pm---- Lunch, Heme iron, vit d3 and k2, DGL, vit c, blackseed oil, zinc carnosine and Thorne iron

3pm ----75 mg of NDT

6pm--- supper, 130mg magnesium, digestive enzymes and s boulardii

10pm ----15mg NDT and 6.25mcg of T4

*****It took me about 11 months to work up to taking more than 30mg at a time. There was a point I was doing 5 times of dosing. *****

Thanks a lot Imaan for writing all that in such details. It helps a lot. I will do something similar & hope I can work out a plan. 💐
