Blood test results just crazy!

December 7th 2022- TSH 0.93 ( 0.27-4.2), Free T 3 3.89 (3.1-6.8) Free Thyroxine 17.3 ( 12-22)

Fast forward to January 12th 2023- TSH 8.73 ( 0.27-4.2), FreeT3 2.7 (3.1-6.8) Free T4 14.9 (12-22)

Why such a vast difference in such a short time? The first test was from Medichecks the second from Monitor My Health (NHS Aprroved).

I take 75mcg a day. Even in December I didn’t feel too good.

The only difference in my health is that I’ve had a painful leg (Tendonitis self diagnosed) since November last year. Then on January 4th I pulled my back muscle just bending over slightly. I class myself as quite an active person but these two problems have set me back.

Had a phone call with a Physiotherapist on Wednesday this week who has given me exercises to do which have helped a little. Then today I increased my Thyroxine to 100mcg and by this afternoon my back improved but then had heartburn!

I can’t win but if anyone can throw any light on this I would appreciate it.

It will take 6-8 weeks for new 100mcg dose levothyroxine to settle

Which brand of levothyroxine is 100mcg

Is it same brand as when on 75mcg

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

The same brand, I never change it. The other tests were all done on January 12th with the second blood test. All came back ok. I only take Vitamin D.

Can you explain why the results were so vastly different in such a short time please?

Do you always take levothyroxine on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after

Have you had any new medications recently or antibiotics

Dec 7th

FT4: 17.3 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 only 53.00% through range

FT3: 3.89 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 worse at only 21.35%

Shows under medicated and very poor conversion rate

Jan 12th

FT4: 14.9 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 only 29.00% through range

FT3: 2.7 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 BELOW RANGE at -10.81%

Were both tests done early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

previous post shows you were under medicated 5 months ago too

Yes they were, I am really puzzled!

No new medication which it’s why it’s so strange. I’ve felt cold, constipated, tired, weight gain. Everything you’d expect.

well thyroid does die off in stages

But stress and pain might increase the amount of hormone you use

Other things like caffeine, gluten or dairy intolerance all can affect levels
