Update in current treatment!

After bloods & stool samples I'm declared normal😅 the Dr says my thyroid is stable so need to worry. I don't think they listen as I believe the thyroid & acid reflux goes hand in hand, so I'm to have an endoscopy to see why I continue with symptoms meanwhile back on the lansoperzole (off for 4weeks) I'm watching out for triggers being careful & managing. I've started taking zinc 15mcg to see if that helps. Otherwise I'm doing better than some. We'll see how I go.

previous post shows you are highly likely not on high enough dose levothyroxine having had dose reduced

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Come back with new post once you get FULL Thyroid and vitamin results

Also if your lactose intolerant and on dairy free diet you should be getting lactose free levothyroxine

Are you also on gluten free diet

Humphre profile image
Humphre in reply toSlowDragon

No not on gluten free but I'm careful how much I eat and what it is. I can tolerate a little of gluten etc but it's the amount my eyes are like dinner plates but my stomach is s saucer 😊 so little & often. My feelings are thyroxine needs a tweak but we'll see on going.

You mention acid reflux and lansoprazole.

Acid reflux may actually be alkali reflux. Many of us have low stomach acid, not high stomach acid. Many doctors don't know about this unfortunately. Lansoprazole is meant to reduce stomach acid so making things worse.

Low stomach acid is called 'hypochlorhydria'. Here are 2 links which explain more about it.

You can do a simple at home test to check your stomach acid - it's called the burp test.

I hope this helps. You'll find more discussions on here about it.

Thank you for this information I'll check it out, burp test works fine though I've to restart lansoperzole tomorrow but I'm thinking I might wait & see how I do

Hi just read one of the links & noticed that I've just started on zinc supplement & I believe l'm low on B12 so I'll see how that goes before getting back on PPI 👍

I've just found a recent post/discussion about PPI.

Recommend getting full thyroid and vitamin levels tested as next step

Looking for Ft3 at least 60-70% through range and Ft4 probably a little higher

Test early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Humphre in reply toSlowDragon

My Dr's are hard to talk to re blood test etc & no I get different brands all the time I'll speak with pharmacy see if they can supply same brands each time for all, great more reading😜 👍

Thank you I'll look into that maybe the only way to get the best care. 😊

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toHumphre

if you have never had thyroid antibodies tested in past by NHS recommend you include these in testing

I haven't a clue, when I was diagnosed, by a locum Dr, I was given very little information my levothyroxine went up to 150mcg per day at one point now down to 100 one day & 75the next nothing about any anti bodies or even vitamin levels. Recently diagnosed with osteopenia in a couple of areas plus osteoarthritis in wrist which in damp weather is painful. I'm generally well but for this on going lump in throat & phlegm.

👍For all this information

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with autoimmune thyroid disease…..especially low vitamin D, low B vitamins and low magnesium

For good bone health frequently necessary to supplement vitamin D, B complex and magnesium continuously to maintain optimal levels

Approx 80% of autoimmune patients who try strictly gluten free diet find noticeable or significant improvement. But always test for coeliac before considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

Wow in a nutshell👍 no idea which is me but the vitamins is the area I think I'm struggling. From a food intolerance test it showed I was lacking in B12 & 5, vit C, Betakaroten, L-Carnitine & Adenine Arginine also low in pepsin. I shall study some more methinks thanks
