Bloods a month after taking carbimazole.

I've now had my bloods re tested a month after dr put me on 10mgs of carbimazole . Bloods originally

TSH 0.01 now 53.40 (0.27-4.2)

T4 34.3 now 8.2(12-22)

T3 4.1(3.1-6.8) didn't retest but private test 2 weeks ago was 3 2 so presumably it may be abit lower

B12 265 now 255(179-2000)

Folate 3 now >20(3.9-20)

Ferritin 98 now 47(13-150).

Dr rang yesterday and stopped folic acid,

He was emailing endocrinologist to see what to do next.

Said to carry on with carbimazole until he hears back.

Said ive gone from over to under and might be treated with block and replace , but I thought if I'm under I would come off carbimazole and start meds for under active.

Dr asked how I feel and I said I don't feel any different from a year back and I don't think I have a thyroid problem. Breathless ,tiredness , gaining weight I've had since heart surgery a year ago. The only thing is that these symptons could be thyroid but was put down to recovery from heart surgery. I still think its recovering from heart surgery.

He is going to put that to the endo .

Has your doctor tested any antibodies? He should have tested both Graves' and Hashi's antibodies before putting you on Carbimazole.

Yes Trab are high confirming Graves’ disease

You have become very underactive.  That’s by quite a margin with a fairly low dose of carbimazole & within a month. but you were tested for TRab & it was positive, so I see why doctor is reluctant to stop completely.

You must be struggling with such low levels. Specialist may move to block & replace because of TRab.  Likely have high blocking (not stimulating) antibodies.

If they decide to stop carbimazole and replacement only you’d extra need careful monitoring of levels incase of rises.

Which ever approach remaining on carbimazole alone not a good option.

Thank you. I'm hoping to hear back from Dr next week. I only took 5mgs of carbimazole today as I think 10mgs is too much. What a nightmare. X

5 is too much right now. but stopping completely not ideal either. You need levo added at this stage.

The advise is to take the pill whole but & I’ve never had issue splitting them.

5s are quite small but a pill cutter will half them & Ive quartered 10s but it’s trickier.

Hope the the doctor get back to you quickly. but in mean time I’d take as low as I could get, or leave it every other day.
