Consistent low morning basal temperature with hyperthyroid symptoms

I’ve come to a ‘road block’ on my way to T4/T3 dose perfection, and I’m hoping someone here will advise how to ‘unblock’ the way forward!! (Wishful thinking maybe!)

I’m working with a very helpful holistic psychiatrist who has recently taken an interest in the problems that some of us have with depression, anxiety and the thyroid. She and I are on this journey together.

We’re following Paul Robinson’s advice and I’ve been going by signs and symptoms, ie temperature, BP and heart rate. My waking temperature has been a consistent 36.4 or 5 for the last six months, daytime temperatures are variable, but usually around 36.8 which I am happy with. The morning low temp is constant, even when raising T3. I take my meds, 75 T4 and 12.5 T3 at 7 am, and two more T3 doses of 6.25 during the day. However, I feel lousy in the mornings, nausea, anxiety, depressed and last week my blood pressure went up and stayed up as did my pulse. This signalled to me that I was over medicated, so have now reduced my T4 (didn’t take any yesterday) and am still feeling dreadful in the morning, presumably until the T4 has reduced.

The sudden over-medication could, of course, be due to my previous efforts to improve B12, Vit D and iron levels, or is that wishful thinking?

So far as I can see Paul Robinson doesn’t appear to allow for inconsistencies in body temperature, or have I missed it? Any experiences, thoughts, advice would be very much appreciated.

hi, some food for thought on other things that make me feel lousy in the morning. I think my dose is pretty optimal (T4 only) and diet and vits are strictly followed.

Having a blocked nose and not enough air getting in overnight. Also applies to sleep apnea.

Drinking alcohol, small amounts make me feel hungover/fluey the following morning these days.

An anxious or busy day before - makes me feel drained even though I have by then relaxed. Quite probably adrenal related, have to pace myself, I need a sofa day. Having workload balancing talks at work this week. Took 30 students to Liverpool yesterday and am wiped out today. Anxiety is exhausting.

Detox massage or foam rolling before bed - I think it’s lactic acid that doesn’t get washed out of the system (drinks/urination) before sleep and leaves me feeling dreadful next day.

Upping my ferritin and Vit D have definitely helped a lot.

Gut health, I read recently that an overgrowth of good and bad gut bacteria will affect sleep quality in leaky huts as they are off out into the bloodstream and our poor white blood cells are working all night to clean up. So sorting gut health is crucial to being well rested.

Emotional stress, not so much now but in my youth, an argument at home, a relationship upset would leave me very drained, unwell next day.

Anything there for you?

Wishing you well 🦋💚🦋 x

Thanks Regenallotment it all sounds very familiar. I’ve sorted my gut and my vitamins, iron etc - all optimal and that’s why I’m now hyper I suspect. Just don’t understand why my basal temp is so low if I’m over-medicated! Just have to keep researching and asking the questions I suppose!
