Hi everyone. Quick question I've just lowered my thyroxine from 150/125 mg alternative to just 125mg everyday. I was getting weird anxiety and just mentally feeling unwell. Especially around 4-6pm. Now I'm little better after 3 months but occasionally I seem to be feeling mentally not right. I need to go for a blood test to check my thyroid but I'm suspicious about it been worse when I take my vitamin d. But I definitely need my vitamin D otherwise I feel clumsy and memory is very weak. Anyone else have issues with vit d. I do take calcium and magnesium too. Without them I get out of body experiences.
Thyroid and vitamin d possible side effects - Thyroid UK
Thyroid and vitamin d possible side effects
Always get full thyroid and vitamin testing done before considering reducing dose levothyroxine
Anxiety can be due to being under medicated
Essential to test Ft3
all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Bloods should be retested 8-10 weeks after any dose reduction
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi thanks for the info. Sorry I didnt make it clear my dose was lowered by the docs after a blood test. I had loose bowel movement continuous for 6 weeks. The lowering dose sorted out that problem within a week of cut down. Im going for a blood test this week, I always go 7.30am but always had my thyroxine just before I leave for the blood test. I will not take it this time but would that be an issue I have always taken my dose before a blood test.
If you had taken levothyroxine before test Ft4 result would be falsely high
TSH unlikely affected
ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
And I agree with greygoose …..you don’t want extra calcium unless tested and found to be low
Calcium clogs up arteries
If you aren’t vegan or on long term dairy free diet unlikely to have low calcium
It's more likely an issue with other low vitamin levels caused by being hypo. Follow SlowDragons recommendations.
Why do you take calcium? That's really not a good thing to take unless absolutely necessary.

It's not impossible that the vit D is having a negative effect. A minority of people are actually intolerant to vit D supplements.
Hi sorry I've been a bit vague as I was at work and trying to post on here. For the guys asking about calcium I actually take multivitamin which includes calcium and magnesium so it's a small amount. The reason being when I took vitamin D for the first time some years ago I felt amazing. I was put on a high 50000 dose per week for one month but the following year when the cold season kicked in and I felt my vitamin D was low, I bought over the counter vitamin d which caused me to have weird out of body experiences. I came to this website and questioned for help. Few people had gone through the same issues and recommended taking magnesium and calcium so I bought nutravita multivitamins and minerals which sorted out my symptoms.
I was put on calcium replacement (awful) then advised to stop this and instead take vit D. I did as I was told but began to feel very unwell. I then discovered that Vit D stops absorption of orally taken levothyroxine so had to vastly increase the amount taken. Apparently vit D is stored in fat cells so you are kind of stuck with the effect of non absorption. Son says losing weight would help but doing this has made no difference!!!
I can't add any information about the combination of levothyroxine & vitamin d but I have had tremendous issues with vitamin d supplementation. I pushed through because I was severely deficient (7.6 ng/L - 19 nmol/L). But I felt very unwell doing it. Sprays were a little better than pills, but both were not well tolerated at all. I was seeing a naturopathic doctor at the time and she was at a loss. And I found no one on the Pernicious Anemia forum of this site that had any issue (common to have a vitamin d deficiency with a b12 deficiency). So I too was at a loss.
I can't afford it right now but I found injections much better.
going through exact same thing. I took vitamin d for years without problems. Once my parathyroid’s started working no longer needed. Began taking again a few months at 5000 iu per day due to a low normal vitamin d level. I began having horrible panic attacks. I thought I was going hyperthyroid. Then I remembered an endocrinologist I saw years back that dx me with vitamin d toxicity. I went to have labs drawn and my tsh had gone up to an 8 from a three. Since vitamin d is fat soluble in builds up in fat cells leaving less room for absorption of thyroid meds. I am four weeks out from stopping vitamin d and my tsh is down to 3. I too wanted to decrease thyroid meds for fear of being hyper but vitamin d caused a quick drop in tsh. I am still adjusting without vitamin d. If feels as though I have increased thyroid meds. I have a difficult time with any changes though
