How can I increase my T4?

Having just discovered that there is a relationship between hypothyroidism, low T4 and kidney problems. In other words low GFR (kidney function) I'm wondering whether I should consider increasing my NDT or thyroxin or whatever I can take to increase my T4.

My results most recently done in February.

FT 4 - .81 - range - .80 to 1.8

FT3 - 3.23 range 2.30 to 4.20

I don't think FT total is of any use but it is 5.02 - range 4.5 to 10.9

T3 uptake 35.2 range 22.5 to 37.

FTI 1.77- range 1.01 to 4.03

TSH .70 - range .40 to 4.5

No biotin for one week prior to test, test taken first thing in the morning, nothing but water before test and NDT taken in two doses the day before, one in the morning and one in the evening, a little more than 12 hours before before the test.

I am currently taking 75 mg Armour Thyroid.

My GFR (kidney function) has been declining but all other kidney and liver markers are normal. I was diagnosed with CKD because of my GFR and fatty liver from an ultrasound.

I have been working on improving all my numbers.

According to my numbers, the only issues now are my thyroid (atrophied per US), my GFR and my glucose is slightly elevated but is coming down.

Having had high inflammation for years, my CRP came back negative this time.

Thanks for your help.

To increase FT4 you can increase your dose of NDT or add levothyroxine/synthroid.

Thanks. I guess I'll try upping my NDT a bit.

I have a similar dilemma! I take Armour and my ft4 is always lower than ft3 and still have weird symptoms. You have definitely space for an increase. See how you go, if you reach the level when you are overdosed, drop back and if still not feeling well and ft4 is low then you might have to add levo at some point. But I would first try NDT. Your FT3 is only 48% of range, most of the time this might not be enough to feel well.

I think I have always been underdosed. I took 40mg initially then was raised to 60 about 30 or more years ago and was on that until this year. I never saw an Endo until 2 years ago and I only saw her once. My 2nd appointment was canceled when Covid started and I never got another one. I don't think she knew much about thyroid as I had to explain a few things to her! She's more of a diabetes doc.My regular doctor has been working with me, she's great, orders all the tests that I ask for and doesn't insist on mammograms. She's open to my natural way.

Thanks for your help.

Lemon juice first thing helps flush out a fatty liver and kidney. I take it every morning from fresh lemons.
