Bloodwork results-what do you think?

I followed testing guidelines (testing before 9 am no levothyroxine for 24 hours). I asked to have my ferritin tested, but the nurse told me they would only test that if my magnesium blood test came back abnormal. I was previously on 25 mcg of levothyroxine and they bumped me up to 50 mcg. They wanted to start me on a cholesterol med, but I requested to see if the higher dose of levothyroxine and diet will help first.

Please take a look at these results and let me know what you think. It is hard to make heads or tails of some of this stuff. (The date 4/7/21 was my previous bloodwork at this doctor. The written numbers are my results from that date's bloodwork. I've been on 25 mcg of levothyroxine since May 2021.) I am scheduled to retest in 2 months.

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

50mcg levothyroxine is only the standard starter dose levothyroxine

Results show you are under medicated….not surprising

FT4: 0.7 pmol/l (Range 0.6 - 1.6)

Ft4 is only 10.00% through range

No Ft3

Most people when adequately treated will have Ft4 at least 60% through range

Request/insist on 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine and retest in 6-8 weeks

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

B12 is too low

No folate or ferritin results

Essential to test both, privately yourself if necessary

Vitamin D is ok

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested yet

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Testing TPO and TG antibodies essential

Have you had coeliac blood test done

I requested to have ferritin and folate tested but they told me that would come only if my magnesium was abnormal. Requested the other stuff too but they did not test. Hopefully since they see some abnormalities they will test the other stuff as well. Currently, I am not taking any supplements. I saw b12 was low. Should I ask for b12 shots or do over the counter pills? Any other supplements recommended?

Also I did test before 9 am and 24 hours without meds. Thanks so much for the feedback!!

Ferritin has nothing to do with magnesium

Ferritin is storage form of iron

Essential to test iron if ferritin is low

Ideally test full iron panel test for anaemia including ferritin

Folate rarely tested in USA (weirdly)
