Hi ,

I’m new on this site -found it via the link on the PMR version of the site I was on before - which helped me no end when I was diagnosed with that condition ( which I never believe I had but the steroids subdued the pain ) by my Gp . At the time I had all the classic symptoms of a Thyroid condition .

Since I have got worse and and the fatigue etc has really affected my life , had a private Thyroid test that my gp just ignored ! I believe I have Hashimotos

Do any of your members know what the results of the bloods mean and should I be more pushy with the GP ?

Total thyroxine T4 33nmol L Range 59 - 154

Thyroid stimulating hormone 4.22 mIu L Range 0.27 - 4.2

Free Thyroxine 15.3 pmol L Range 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 3.8pmol L Range 3.1 - 6.8

Thyroid peroxidase abs 246 Iu mL Range 0 - 34

Thyroglobulin Antibody 142 Iu mL Range 0 - 115

I have got the ranges on my test sheet items 1 is below normal

Item 2 slightly above and items 3 and 4 well above .

Thanks if any one can throw any light on what all these figures mean - because I could do with knowing what I’m on about before I get another app with GP ( probably in a few months !!!)

Please add the reference ranges that came with your result so that we can give you the best possible information. Just saying "below" or "above" doesn't help us, we can give more accurate answers if we see the ranges as well.

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am

(this gives highest TSH)

Total thyroxine T4 33nmol L Range 59 - 154

Thyroid stimulating hormone 4.22 mIu L Range 0.27 - 4.2

Free Thyroxine 15.3 pmol L Range 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 3.8pmol L Range 3.1 - 6.8

Thyroid peroxidase abs 246 Iu mL Range 0 - 34

Thyroglobulin Antibody 142 Iu mL Range 0 - 115

Yes high thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

Total T4 below range

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

Or coeliac blood test done

If not these are next steps

Hashimoto’s frequently results in low vitamin levels

Come back with new post once you get vitamin results

To get diagnosed as hypothyroid you need 2 tests with TSH over 5.

High thyroid antibodies helps
