I started on 25mcg levothyroxine in October 2021 when my TSH suddenly shot to 3.66 (0.4 - 4.50) with Free T4 9.0 (7.0 -17.0). I felt great for about a month and then the manufacturer changed. My regular prescription bus now Wockhart . The GP said she didn't go by blood tests, she treated how people feel so when I noticed symptoms like feeling cold, waking up tired, not sleeping well and gained another few pounds I messaged her. A different Dr picked up the message and insisted I hy blood tests. These were taken on 24/01/2022 and appear to have been filed as ok.

TSH 0.63mu/L (0.40 - 4.50)

Free T4 13 (7.0 - 17.0)

Vit D 130.2nmol/L (50 - 250.0)

B12 636ng/L (145 - 910)

Ferritin 65ug/L. (11 - 307)

Folate over 23ug/L. ( 3.1 - 19.9)

I take 4000iu Vit D daily for osteopenia and B12 every other day. I've stopped taking a Vit B complex supplement after noting how high my folate is. I'm wondering if my Ferritin is a bit low and whether I should still persue the idea of increasing my levothyroxine or does this appear ok? Is it worth getting a private test to assess T3?

Grateful for any words of wisdom. I'm learning loads from this forum!

The trouble with 25mcg as a Levo dosage is that it can make you feel worse rather than better.

Even a struggling thyroid may produce more than the equivalent of 25mcg Levo - and when you take levothyroxine it switches off the feedback loop which would prompt the thyroid to make more thyroid hormone. So in effect, you’re on less thyroid hormone when medicated than you were un-medicated (hope that makes sense).

You may very well benefit from a raise in levothyroxine dose. 25mcg is hardly ever a replacement dosage, it’s a “starter” dosage to see how your body takes to it. Your body is almost certainly wanting more!

Thank you, that makes sense to me. I will try to get a discussion with the original GP who seemed far more knowledgeable.

Thanks, I will get the book today. I have already ordered a test using the Thyroid Uk code and just waiting for that to arrive. I've stopped all my supplements ready for doing the test and then will tackle the GPs again. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "regular" doctor anymore, it's just who is duty doctor on the day.
