I have been told not to take zin and magnesium together but there are studies that show there are benefits to taking it together. People on here seem to think better you is a good place for vitamins, they are just one of the places that reccomend taking both together

Zinc and magnesium
At the same time?
Yes either as two separate tablets or as a combine. Theres one study done on reducing crp and blood pressure on diabetes and cardiovascular problems. And another one that looks at pregnant women and gestational diabetes.
I don't doubt that taking both zinc and magnesium is beneficial. I do myself. But, if you take them both at the same time, they block the absorption one of the other. And, the fact that some supplement manufacturers make tablets with them both in proves nothing. That's what manufactures do - although I don't know why. Look at mult-vits. The contents of those tend to cancel each other out so that you end up absorbing nothing.
From what I've read - and please don't ask me where, because I don't remember - they need to be taken at least two hours apart for maximum absorption of both. I certainly cannot see how taking them both together at the same time would increase their benefit.
I will have a look for the articles In the morning. It seems that wherever you look it states high levels of zinc will may hinder absorption of magnesium but on daily allowance there could be benefits.
I can’t take zinc with magnesium, I find I get pains in my bones if I do, it stops when I stop the zinc, so currently avoiding.
It seems if you take a normal daily allowance of 7 or 8 mg zinc with magnesium it works successfully. But if you take a high level of zinc then it will hinder the absorption of magnesium.
Darcey14,
There is much fallacy and scaremongering over the taking of supplements and it depends on the amount you are taking.
If supplementing an actual deficiency then higher amounts can disrupt anothers bioavailability, particularly if one is bound to glycinate and the other to a less stable oxide for example, but if taking a maintenance dose then taking them together is fine. We don’t separate nutrients & minerals out in the foods we consume.
Yes, BetterYou is a popular choice on the forum and they advocate taking magnesium and zinc together. If we stay clear of cheaper brands such as H & B and use only good quality, then the amounts in the combos should be formulated to compliment one another.
That's what I thought. I know h&b get a bad name but they do sell decent quality items. I feel like you just need to do your homework before you go shopping there.
