Liothyronine Sodium Vs Liothyronine Hydrochloride T3

Hi,

I'm currently on T3 - Liothyronine Sodium by SigmaPharm, 10mcg (5mcg twice). However my pharmacy have said they can get the Thybon Henning 20, which is Liothyronine Hydrochloride for free. I was paying for the other T3. I just need my endocrinologist to specify the Thybon Henning version.

I'm just wondering if there's much difference in the two, if swapping from one to the other is likely to cause any issues, etc.? I'm particularly sensitive to changes in dosage and brands, and get heart palpitations.

Part of the reason I want to swap is because the SigmaPharm has lactose and is blocking my nose up badly, and the Thybon Henning doesn't.

Thanks!

Many members have found they preferred Thybon Henning to at least some other liothyronine tablets. Though a few have preferred other products.

I don't think we have a firm basis to say Liothyronine hydrochloride is, or is not, "better" than Liothyronine sodium.

Supposedly a new product, Roma Liothyronine hard capsules should now be available - in 5, 10 and 20 microgram dosages. However, it has only very recently been made available, so we have not yet heard from anyone who has tried the product. But it is lactose-free. You will need to explain in detail to get a pharmacist into the position where they would be happy to order it.

Have a look in my medicines document for more information.

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

Hi find Thybon a little bit better, it seems more effective yet gentler. How come it is free? Do you get an NHS or a private prescription?

Teva Liothyronine does not contain lactose but are more expensive than Thybon Henning.

I much prefer ThyBon Henning 20mcg over any other Liothyronine I’ve tried. It feels more effective. I wish the NHS would prescribe ThyBon Henning 20mcg.
