Hi wondered if anyone has tried Sanofi Henning Thybon from Germany? Hopefully the same as Liothyronine sodium tablets? Going to hopefully get a new prescription tomorrow for the T3 and thought I may try it if any good? Thanks
Sanofi Henning Thybon...is it same as Liothyron... - Thyroid UK
Sanofi Henning Thybon...is it same as Liothyronine sodium tablets?
Thybon Henning is liothyronine from Germany. I was recently switched to it as my pharmacist couldn't get hold of UK liothyroine. It is very good, it seems a littel less potent but more gentel whilst being fully effective. I suspect some of the lesser quality liothyronine tablets are a little over 100% potency so that as their potency declines over time they stay within the 90% to 110% requirement. I found Thybon Henning better than Tiromel and much better than UK AMCo liothyronine which is a very cheap formulation.
Hi Jim
Do you need a private prescription for this? Or do you get one from your GP?
Thanks
Sophie 😊
My GP prescribed liothyroine but my pharmacist couldn't get hold of Morningside, he called me and said his wholesaler had Thybon Henning and I said that was fine. I'm not sure how it came about as Thybon is not licensed in the UK but it can be dispensed if a UK supply is not available. I suspect the wholesaler is a bit naughty and getting a better margin but I'm happy having a better drug that may be a bit cheaper for the NHS.
I've been on Thybon Henning T3 for a few months (20 mcg per day) and I prefer it to the NHS brand I was on. It feels a little stronger. My GP gives me a private prescription.
TigerLillyjo,
Sanofi Henning Thybon is NOT the same as most other liothyronine (T3) tablets. This is because it is formulated using Liothyronine hydrochloride rather than Liothyronine sodium.
However, the question is very much whether that tiny difference in chemical make-up translates into a real difference in reality.
We have had a small number of people say they do not do so well on Liothyronine hydrochloride. However we have had quite a number over the years say they do quite or even very well on Sanofi Henning Thybon.
We are all different. I'd suggest most people find Sanofi Henning Thybon a good product.
Hi Helvella, that's good to know. Do you happen to know if can purchase liothyronine sodium from another company abroad with a prescription?
I would rather use my prescription than risk purchasing without. I have had one for the UK but obviously too expensive and looking for a compromise if possible on price without risking my health.
TigerLillyjo,
Yes - you can. But I am not very aware of good sources that are reliable, trustworthy, sell the product you want, and have it in stock.
If I wanted T3 for myself, I'd be more than happy to try Sanofi Henning Thybon.
Hi TigerLillyjo i know is post is old, but I've just been talking to the company in the U.K. Who can get Henning, as I was trying to get hold of Perrigo, due to it being gluten free, I can't seem to get it, but the distributor told me this is another good brand that they can get hold of, it's also lactose free.
I'm currently on the brand Teva and I react badly to it, headaches are horrific, so I'm asking to switch to this, which yes we can have on nhs.
Hi
I used to have Thybon Henning a few years ago. I did well on it. I am now prescribed Mercury Pharma t3. Sometimes it works ok and sometimes it is dire and I end up back in bed. As I am now getting my t3 from the hospital pharmacy I get three months worth. Unfortunately this latest batch seems not to be working and I have to wait for weeks to see Endo. I am going to ask for Thybon. I did great on it before. I had energy and lost weight without trying. I am bedbound most days at the minute and have put weight on. I cannot live like this with no consistency. Hoping I can get Thybon. Fingers crossed
Wow, and I thought I felt rubbish... I'm sorry to hear that..
my gp has agreed I can have it but wants me to try a months worth first rather than giving me my full prescription which is fair enough.
I asked for Perrigo but you just cannot get it here, I've spoken to the company, and it was them that suggested Henning. I think my dose needs increasing, but she wants me to try the brand first before increasing. I'm on 20mcg twice a day, I've removed gluten dairy and caffeine for the last 2 weeks, im feeling different in a good way, other than the headaches, but still no weight loss. Im persevering though.
I had my bloods done last week, I've always had them done in the morning after taking my Lio, not knowingly I shouldn't take it for 8-10 hours before bloods, so last week I did it having not taken meds.
In January with lio that morning I was..
TSH 1.08
Free T4 < 3.2
Free T3 9.5
Last week, no meds...
TSH 2.04
Free T4 < 3.2
Free T3 4.8
Because I'm in the "range" she doesn't want to up, however, she knows I feel shite, so is willing to try Henning then if my headaches go, and I feel better, she will increase..
I hope you manage to change your prescription...
Thanks for replying x
Hi Fibefm, sorry I have only just seen your post. I still haven't switched to Henning but I can confirm I currently have a prescription (private) and have Perrigo from a pharmacy in the UK, can inbox you the pharmacy if you need it. You do need a prescription and unfortunately it is expensive. Sorry to hear you are suffering with a reaction to the brand you are on and hope you can feel better soon.
It’s the name of Liothyronine Hydrochloride in France / Germany. U.K. prescriptions come in 20 mcg. While most countries make 25mcg tablets are Liothyronine Sodium.
